In a few months, David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman will join the 2025 movie lineup, accompanied by other DC Comics superheroes. James Gunn’s “Superman” film, initiating the cinematic series for the DC Universe, will introduce Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Metamorpho who will join forces with Superman to combat evil. Notably, Edi Gathegi has been cast as Mr. Terrific (also known as Michael Holt), and I appreciate how Gunn acknowledges the character’s anniversary as we draw near to his debut on the big screen.
While Mr. Terrific was previously depicted in live-action by Echo Kellum in Arrow for five seasons (albeit with the first name Curtis), needless to say that a lot of people around the world will be introduced to him for the first time through Superman. Calling Michael Holt “one of my favorite characters,” James Gunn shared a new look at Gathegi’s version of the extremely intelligent superhero in the upcoming DC movie on Instagram and his other social media platforms:

2025 will be 28 years after the Michael Holt version of Mr. Terrific, distinct from Terry Sloane from World War II, first appeared in Spectre #54. Interestingly, this is the second occasion that James Gunn has celebrated Mr. Terrific’s anniversary. Last year, it coincided with John Ostrander’s visit to the Superman set, where he co-created the character with Tom Mandrake. Now, we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes photo showing Edi Gathegi perfectly embodying Mr. Terrific on set, posing alongside the director during filming.
The first time they laid eyes on David Corenswet as Superman, both Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan were captivated, yet a glaring fact seemed to slip their minds.
In a behind-the-scenes video, James Gunn expresses his admiration for Superman, using words like ‘stunning’ or ‘impressive’ instead of ‘beautiful’. This clip also offers glimpses at the other superheroes.
This will be Gathegi’s second time playing a comic book character, having previously appeared as Darwin in X-Men: First Class. The For All Mankind actor showed off the jacked physique he got for the Superman role on multiple occasions before and during filming. Like his comic book counterpart, Gathegi’s Mr. Terrific uses his intellect to craft high-tech crimefighting gadgets, and he’ll be leading Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner and Metamorpho on this unnamed team that’ll be active in Metropolis with Superman.
In this production, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Anthony Carrigan will portray the remaining three heroes. Fillion is expected to reprise his role as Guy Gardner next year in Lanterns. Joining them are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., who has previously appeared in the animated series Creature Commandos. Not to be overlooked is Krypto, the adorable canine stealing scenes from the latest Superman footage released at CinemaCon.
