Following a break of approximately three and a half years, Lorde has announced she’s set to unveil her next album titled “Virgin“. The release date for this highly-anticipated album is set for June 27th.
On Wednesday, the twice Grammy-winning artist unveiled the title of her fourth studio album together with the artwork, which showcases a blue x-ray depiction of a pelvis adorned with a zipper, a belt buckle, and an intrauterine device.
Or, more casually:

I, a dedicated gamer, just caught wind that Lorde posted an image on her Instagram and personal site. Not only that, but she’s teased us with a promise: her upcoming album is “100% penned down in my own blood.” It’s like she’s leveling up the anticipation for her music, and I can’t wait to dive into this intense new game of sounds!

New Zealand artist Virgin, in collaboration with Jim-E Stack, produced her single “What Was That” for the album’s debut. Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Devonté Hynes, Dan Nigro (a Grammy-winning producer known for working with Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan) also contributed to the songwriting. Chris Gehringer mastered the album, while it was mixed by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst.
Lorde’s recent single, titled ‘What Was That’, serves as her solo comeback since the release of her album Solar Power in August 2021. Although she hasn’t been completely inactive, she did collaborate with Charli XCX last year on a remixed version of ‘Girl, so confusing'” (from Brat).
On Tuesday, the artist known for “Green Light” surprised fans by performing a spontaneous concert of her new song, “What Was That,” in Washington Square Park, New York City. Despite not having a permit, she had invited her followers to join her. The impromptu concert was interrupted, but later that day, Lorde returned and successfully debuted the song. The following day, she released the music video for “What Was That,” featuring footage from the event.
