The upcoming Marvel film “Thunderbolts” has strong connections to the 2021 release “Black Widow”. Three significant characters from that movie – Yelena, Red Guardian and Taskmaster – are back, with this being the first time we’ve seen the latter two since then. It’s not unexpected that Natasha (played by Scarlett Johansson) won’t be present, but given the rest of Black Widow’s associates are here, it leaves one curious about Melina’s whereabouts.

In the movie “Black Widow,” Rachel Weisz portrayed Melina, a skilled operative from the Red Room who posed as the mother to Natasha and Yelena during their undercover days. At the end of “Black Widow,” Melina’s family reunites, but in the subsequent film “Thunderbolts,” she is absent. Affirmatively speaking, we certainly do see a lot of potential for the character Melina. I’ve had discussions with Marvel folks about her, and it seems that there are many exciting possibilities ahead.

As a dedicated film enthusiast, I must say that in the thrilling world of Black Widow, Harbour’s Alexei and Weisz’s Melina portrayed an undercover married duo on screen. However, the movie subtly hinted at a genuine bond between them, so much so that there’s a deleted scene (accessible with a Disney+ subscription) where they share a tender kiss at the film’s end. Yet, it’s evident from Thunderbolts* that Red Guardian was very much single then.

In the movie “Thunderbolts“, Yelena and Red Guardian aren’t very close, but they still keep in contact. As for Melina, it’s uncertain if their relationship is the same. It might just be that she’s away during the film’s events, or perhaps there’s more to their situation than meets the eye.

The absence of Melina in Thunderbolts might signal that her storyline has concluded in the MCU, suggesting they’re ready to progress without her, similar to numerous other characters over time.
