This discovery has brought the most game-changing element to the Grand Line since the Void Century. Interestingly enough, Luffy’s transformation using Gear 5 was a secret that many of his crew members hadn’t witnessed until now.
Previously, when Luffy unveiled his Gear 5 for the first time, many onlookers witnessed a remarkable metamorphosis. However, since the majority of the Straw Hat Pirates were engaged in separate skirmishes across Onigashima during that time, it wasn’t until the Egghead Island Arc that the full crew encountered the intriguing manifestation of Sun God Nika. As we approach Episode 1127, only two members of the Straw Hat Crew remain oblivious to Luffy’s Gear 5 – Brook and Roronoa Zoro.

Even though Luffy talks about his transformation with his comrades during their journey to Egghead, they were never truly ready for what unfolded on Vegapunk’s island. In the end, it was Rob Lucci who prompted Luffy to utilize his Gear 5 form, resulting in an intense (and overwhelmingly one-sided) conflict between users of Awakened Zoan-type Devil Fruits. As Luffy engaged in combat with Lucci, Nami, Robin, Sanji, and Franky watched the battle unfold via cameras. Jinbe and Chopper, however, were fortunate enough to witness the transformation firsthand from a close proximity. Regrettably, Brook and Zoro once more failed to see this transformation, paving the way for one of the most underrated moments in Episode 1127.

Under the pressure of Admiral Kizaru, Monkey D. Luffy is compelled to unleash his Gear 5 form in a face-off with an Emperor for the first time in front of his crew. This display of his incredible power left Brook amazed, mirroring everyone else’s reactions to its might. Initially, it seemed like Zoro would again fail to observe Luffy’s transformation due to his fight against Rob Lucci, but…
Lucci’s persistence in their battle has compelled Zoro to step up and showcase his abilities against an adversary who previously faced Luffy. Fortunately, amidst the fight, Luffy takes a moment to check on Zoro, providing him with a unique opportunity to witness Zoro’s activated Devil Fruit power directly for the first time.

Luffy considers Gear 5 as his greatest freedom yet, which aligns with his ultimate dream. However, the nature of the Devil Fruit may be a topic of speculation among fans, but it’s not a concern for the Straw Hat Pirates in the slightest. In fact, Luffy’s Devil Fruit abilities perfectly embody their captain’s spirit, explaining Roronoa Zoro’s subdued reaction to Luffy’s new form. Now that they’ve recovered from the initial surprise of their captain’s remarkable change, the Straw Hat Pirates are eager to use this newfound strength to exact revenge for their defeat at Sabaody Archipelago by vanquishing Kizaru.
