Sinners Star on Michael B. Jordan Chemistry & Sequel Hopes

Despite being categorized as a vampire horror film, the highly praised Warner Bros. production, “Thriller Title,” boasts an intriguing blend of various genres and subtle themes that have left critics and audiences craving more. One such aspect is the romantic connection between two characters, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan and Wunmi Mosaku, respectively.

In conversation with Mosaku, she discussed her on-screen relationship with Jordan as they portrayed the romance between Annie and Elijah “Smoke” Moore. The actor shared that it was director Ryan Coogler who guided them to connect with their characters’ bond. As she put it, “Ryan suggested we address Smoke by his real name, Elijah. This shift made a world of difference in the scene for us.” She added, “It felt electrifying. She calls him Elijah three times in the film – during their first encounter, during the death scene, and when they meet again.

Mosaku stated, “She loves him specifically, that’s why she can forgive and comprehend, for she recognizes Smoke when he’s around, and Elijah too.” The romantic tale between Smoke and Annie is often highlighted as one of the most heartwarming stories in the Sinners, a film that maintains high ratings among vampire films.

As Mosaku put it, Michael B. Jordan made her feel at ease during their professional partnership. She admitted, “I thought to myself, ‘This is Michael B. Jordan. This could potentially be quite nerve-wracking.'” However, she continued, “It was surprisingly effortless. There was a shared admiration, curiosity, and teamwork. And then, incredibly enough, they gave me the role on the spot in the audition room,” she concluded about her experience working alongside the actor.

A Sinners Sequel Doesn’t Seem Likely

Mosaku’s highly praised acting in the movie “Sinners” enhances a body of work which encompasses “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice“, “Deadpool & Wolverine,“, “Loki“, and “Lovecraft Country“. Although she enjoyed working on “Sinners” and is intrigued by delving deeper into the characters, Mosaku expressed, “America seems to adore prequels, sequels, franchises, British adaptations, and American remakes. But I believe Ryan is a man of honor, so he won’t do anything that isn’t proper.

In Jim Crow-era Mississippi, the story Sinners unfolds, where Smoke and his brother Elias “Stack” Moore seek a fresh start after leaving their old life behind. Yet, what they find upon their return is far from welcoming; as time goes by, some of the new acquaintances they make inexplicably turn out to be vampires.

So far, the movie “Sinners” has raked in a staggering $175 million globally since its premiere. The film stars Mary, Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim, Miles Caton as Sammie “Preacher Boy” Moore, Jayme Lawson as Pearline, and Jack O’Connell as Remmick. Notably, “Sinners” is the fifth project that Jordan has worked on with Coogler, having previously achieved success with “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” and the “Black Panther” series.

Sinners is currently playing in theaters.
