GTA 6 Has Officially Been Delayed to May 2026 After Initial 2025 Release Window

Originally slated for a 2025 launch, it has been officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will now be released in the middle of 2026. This news means fans will have to wait a bit longer for the game. While some had anticipated this delay, it’s still disheartening to have the official confirmation.

In a recent post on X, Rockstar Games officially pushed back the release date for GTA 6 to May 26, 2026. The company expressed regret for the delay, acknowledging that fans were expecting an earlier launch, given the initial 2025 release window announcement. Rockstar emphasized that crafting this new installment has been a challenging yet rewarding process as they strive to surpass their past achievements.

On previous occasions, Rockstar Games has postponed the release of their highly-anticipated games by a significant amount. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2 experienced multiple delays before finally launching on consoles and PCs. Despite the fact that a 60 FPS patch for current systems is yet to be released, many fans believe that waiting for this open-world game was well worth it.

It’s also worth noting that we’ve witnessed the aftermath of Rockstar Games releasing their games too hastily. Who could forget the less-than-stellar launch of GTA Trilogy? At its initial release, it fell short in both visuals and gameplay compared to the PS2 originals. Ironically, it wasn’t until last year that the trilogy finally improved significantly, requiring additional effort from Rockstar.

It’s intriguing to anticipate the general response to Grand Theft Auto 6 once it hits consoles next year. There’s talk circulating that this could be the first game priced at a standard $100, and with Nintendo pushing for $80 releases of the Switch 2, this theory seems more likely.

It’s been confirmed that the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available for play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles starting May 26, 2026. Unfortunately, there has been no announcement yet regarding a release date for PC or Nintendo Switch 2 versions.
