Robert Downey Jr. And Some Of The Avengers: Doomsday Cast Took A Field Trip To See Thunderbolts*, And I’m So Ready For All The Crossovers

2025’s movie lineup welcomes a new Marvel production titled “Thunderbolts*“. Although I won’t disclose any plot details, it’s no secret that several key characters from “Thunderbolts*” are confirmed to return in next year’s “Avengers: Doomsday“. Robert Downey Jr. and Simu Liu are just a couple of the stars joining forces for the upcoming Marvel film. With both actors recently posting photos of their “Doomsday” castmates watching “Thunderbolts*“, I’m excited to see these characters interact!

Let’s start with Simu Liu, who debuted as the title character of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in fall 2021. Check out him alongside Winston Duke, Robert Downey Jr., Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie at their Thunderbolts* screening in the below Instagram post:

Hey there, is it possible for me to join this group of yours to catch a movie? I must say, this lineup of actors playing superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is quite impressive. In Downey’s case though, he played a former superhero – Tony Stark, who met his end in Avengers: Endgame. However, he’s back in the franchise now, portraying Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. As for Simu Liu, we’ll see him reprise his role as Shang-Chi in Doomsday, but last year he voiced an alternate version of the character in What If… ? Season 3 on Disney+.

In addition to those previously mentioned, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” were present as well. This summer, you’ll see their portrayals of Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and Ben Grimm/The Thing. Later, they’re expected to reappear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” joining Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic and Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm/Human Torch. With appearances by the Avengers, Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, some characters from the Fox-era X-Men, “Doomsday” is promising to be an extraordinary event.

Without a doubt, the details of the plot for the upcoming film titled “Avengers: Doomsday” are being tightly held secrets. However, it’s clear that Doctor Doom will be causing chaos across multiple realities. Initially, Kang the Conqueror was slated to do this, but following the dismissal of Jonathan Majors by Marvel Studios at the end of 2023, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom has been cast as the main antagonist instead. Both “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars“, which are being directed by the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony), previously known for directing “Captain America: The Winter Soldier“, “Captain America: Civil War“, “Avengers: Infinity War“, and “Avengers: Endgame” respectively.

A year from now, on May 1, 2026, prepare for the movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday.” In the interim, don’t forget to check out our review of “Thunderbolts” and begin gearing up for the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” which is set for July 25.
