Why hasn’t this highly respected classic game been ported to a greater number of gaming platforms? Given its enduring popularity, one might expect it to be remastered and made available on all modern consoles across generations.

As a die-hard gamer, I can’t wrap my head around why Chrono Trigger isn’t seeing more rereleases. There was even chatter about a remake not too long ago, but it turned out to be just that – talk. Truth be told, while a remake or a spruced-up version would be fantastic, simply re-releasing the original game would do for most of us Chrono Trigger enthusiasts.

Fans frequently criticize Capcom for constantly rereleasing the original Resident Evil 4, but it’s comforting to know that everyone is familiar with its gameplay. After all, it’s a significant part of gaming history, and we’re grateful that these rereleases continue to be made.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that some people grumble about Skyrim being re-released too frequently, but personally, I find it’s a delight rather than a drawback. While the PC version is the one that receives substantial post-launch support through mods, console enthusiasts can still immerse themselves in an extensive role-playing game. It may not appeal to everyone, but for me, the game remains an engaging experience.

Interestingly enough, Chrono Trigger used to frequently get re-released. It even received a port on the PlayStation 1 alongside Final Fantasy 4, known as Final Fantasy Chronicles. This edition featured new anime scenes in the storyline. You could obtain this version not only on the original PlayStation, but also through digital downloads on PS3, PSP, and PS Vita via the PlayStation Network. However, it wasn’t a flawless port, as occasional slowdowns occurred before battles and when exiting the pause menu.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my enthusiasm for the revamped DS version of this game that not only retained the captivating anime cutscenes from the PS1 original, but also did away with those lengthy pauses, making the gaming experience smoother and more enjoyable. To top it off, they added fresh dungeon challenges to keep things exciting! Later on, this enhanced version was brought to PCs and mobile devices, offering improved graphics settings and additional bonus features for an even more immersive gaming journey.

Regrettably, Chrono Trigger was only released for this platform, and it hasn’t been adapted for other systems since then. Some enthusiasts hoped for a PC version that could be played on various consoles, but as of now, that hasn’t materialized. Despite lacking many quality-of-life improvements, fans would eagerly welcome a port of Chrono Trigger on the Switch.

Despite the recent rumors about a Chrono Trigger remake turning out to be untrue, we can only hope there’s some truth to it. Such a development might shed light on why Square Enix hasn’t reissued this classic game for so long. While it’s available on PC and mobile platforms, we believe that the game deserves a release on current-generation consoles as well.
