As a movie enthusiast penning down my thoughts, I’m thrilled to share an exciting update about the much-anticipated reboot of the classic horror film, “Night of the Living Dead.” The script for this chilling revival is in the capable hands of LaToya Morgan, a seasoned writer and producer from AMC’s hit series, “The Walking Dead.”
In an intriguing twist, MGM has recently acquired the rights to a sequel. This new version will be directed by the talented Nikyatu Jusu, known for his exceptional work in the film industry. Since the initial announcement, details about this reboot project have been scarce, leaving horror fans like myself eagerly waiting for more information. Stay tuned as we delve deeper into the undead world of “Night of the Living Dead”!
In a chat with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant, LaToya Morgan, who collaborated on the fresh Max series titled Duster, shared some latest news about the eagerly anticipated reboot. Morgan revealed that she has already completed writing the script, and now it’s under review by Amazon MGM for final approval. Here is her statement:
Absolutely! I’ve completed the script and sent it to the studio. We have an excellent director on board, and we’re almost ready to move forward. While I can’t reveal too much yet, we’re making great progress. It’s been a pleasure working on this project, and I must say, I share George Romero’s admiration for Night of the Living Dead.
Morgan admitted that she initially declined writing the script for the latest adaptation, recognizing the significance of the property in the horror genre. However, upon the request of the Romero family, she rewatched the original, which ignited an idea that she later presented to both the family and the studio. Here’s her comment below:
*Morgan said:* “I initially declined writing for this project out of respect for its legacy in horror cinema. But upon a request from the Romero family, I revisited the original film. This sparked an idea that I couldn’t resist sharing with them and the studio.
Originally, I found the film to be immense. On numerous occasions, I declined participation due to my deep admiration for it as a cornerstone in horror cinema. Being an ardent fan of horror, I usually steer clear from tampering with untouchable titles. However, my family requested that I revisit the movie and consider offering fresh ideas. The concept intrigued me, so I felt compelled to take on the task. After presenting it to them, they were thrilled, and we managed to gain studio interest. Fortunately, multiple parties showed interest, and now we are working with Amazon MGM, hoping to bring a new film soon.

Morgan’s remarks suggest that not only is the script complete, but it has also received approval from the late director’s family, making this upcoming project all the more intriguing.
