Star Wars Shocker: Major Inquisitor’s Sudden Death in New Disney+ Series Leaves Fans Reeling!

On Star Wars Day (May 4), fans were taken aback with a fresh Disney+ series titled “Tales of the Underworld“, which expanded upon the animated anthology series. Notably, one of the episodes saw the demise of a crucial Inquisitor character. The two-part arc in this series focuses on Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane, with hints that the 16th Inquisitor would make an appearance at some point, as suggested by the trailer and poster imagery.

The initial three instalments of “Tales of the Underworld” primarily focused on the character Asajj Ventress. These episodes resolved a significant query that some Star Wars enthusiasts had regarding her fate, as she appeared in both “Tales of the Underworld” and “The Bad Batch“, despite having died earlier according to canon literature. In the premiere episode of Asajj Ventress’ storyline within “Tales of the Underworld“, entitled “A Way Forward,” viewers were initially introduced to a formidable new Inquisitor, as advertised in the trailer and poster.

Following an encounter with a youth named Lyco Strata, Ventress aimed to conceal him from the Empire and facilitate his departure from a barren world. But as she was on the verge of getting him aboard a departing spacecraft, the Inquisitor entered the docking area and activated his lightsaber. This prompted Ventress to retrieve her own yellow lightsaber and engage in a battle with the Inquisitor.

As a diehard movie enthusiast, I was quite intrigued by the promotional materials for “Tales of the Underworld,” hinting at a significant role for the Inquisitor. To my surprise, however, his screen time turned out to be mere minutes before he met his untimely demise on-screen. It was unexpectedly Strata, not Ventress, who ended up taking the Inquisitor’s life. Despite having Ventress cornered with his double-bladed lightsaber poised for a fatal strike, it was Ventress’ lightsaber and Strata’s own that were used to deliver two lethal blows from behind, effectively ending the Inquisitor’s life.

Contrary to its extensive promotion, the series Tales of the Underworld (discover which seven Star Wars actors returned in Tales of the Underworld here) swiftly terminated its Inquisitor character shortly after his introduction, a move that’s not unprecedented.

Tales of the Underworld’s Inquisitor Was Nearly Identical to Tales of the Jedi’s

As a cinephile reflecting on the premiere episode of “Tales of the Underworld,” I couldn’t help but experience a touch of familiarity if you’ve caught a glimpse of “Tales of the Jedi.” This is because, in an intriguing twist, “Tales of the Jedi,” debuted in 2022, introduced a fresh Inquisitor character in one of its episodes only to extinguish him shortly thereafter.

In that series, Ahsoka encountered and battled the Eleventh Brother (also known as the Inquisitor), only to slay him shortly afterward during a lightsaber fight. The storyline of the Eleventh Brother in “Tales of the Jedi” bore a striking resemblance to that of the Inquisitor in “Tales of the Underworld”. Both characters were prominently showcased in their respective shows’ promotional materials, yet they were both dispatched shortly after their debut.

Nonetheless, spectators were able to discover the Eleventh Brother’s identity by name at least. Contrastingly, in the series Tales of the Underworld, the Inquisitor’s true name remains unspoken throughout the story, and he is only acknowledged as “The Inquisitor” in the credits.

Will Tales of the Jedi’s Inquisitor Show Up Again?

In the Star Wars universe, some Inquisitors have held significant roles, driving key plotlines, while others have appeared more peripherally. For instance, the Third Sister (Reva) played a crucial part in the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the Eleventh Brother, as depicted in Tales of the Jedi, did not carry as much importance.

It’s worth noting that the character from Tales of the Underworld akin to the Eleventh Brother in Tales of the Jedi could potentially appear again in a future series, as we saw the Eleventh Brother reappear in another project.

Some supporters may recall that the Eleventh Brother had a minor yet inconsequential part in one of Barriss Offee’s “Tales from the Empire” episodes. While he met his end early in “Tales of the Jedi,” this series served as an introduction for the character, and “Tales from the Empire” demonstrated that he could be resurrected.

There’s a chance that the character from “Tales of the Underworld” known as the Inquisitor might be utilized similarly. Since he’s been presented, there’s an opportunity for him to appear in different ventures, not just those on Disney+.

To illustrate, Star Wars often publishes books known as “canon novels” featuring characters that have appeared in their TV series or films. For example, the character The Inquisitor from “Tales of the Empire” might be part of an upcoming book, offering fans a deeper insight into his past.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that there were rumors about Ventress’ demise as well, but she came back to life later on. Similarly, just because the Inquisitor met his end in Tales of the Underworld, doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t reappear again.
