Cynthia Erivo will return to London’s West End in a stage production of Dracula.
In the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of Dracula, Ervio will portray a total of 23 characters. This adaptation and direction are by Kip Williams, who previously staged the solo performance of The Picture of Dorian Gray, featuring Sarah Snook. The show is scheduled to debut at London’s Noël Coward Theatre starting February 4, 2026.
Erivo last performed on stage following her 2015 Broadway revival role in “The Color Purple,” which she also played in London and won a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy for her performance. Her upcoming project is starring in “Dracula,” coming after the release of “Wicked: For Good” in November. Most recently, she made an appearance in the premiere episode of season two of “Poker Face,” where she portrayed five distinct characters.
In the upcoming production of “Dracula,” Erivo will portray several characters such as Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray (Harker’s fiancée), Lucy Westenra and her suitors, Van Helsing (the vampire hunter), Count Dracula, and more. This is the third and most ambitious installment in Williams’ gothic trilogy, which consists of “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.” Previously staged by Sydney Theatre Company in 2024, “Dracula” is set to be presented again.
In “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” currently playing on Broadway following a successful run in London’s West End, William’s innovative approach involves using multiple video screens and both live and pre-recorded video footage. This allows Snook to portray all characters within the play, even those opposite herself. Erivo recently attended a performance of this unique production on Broadway.
Speaking about stepping back onto the stage, Erivo expressed that it’s like coming home after a long absence. With a tale as intricate, chilling, and human as ‘Dracula’, she feels it presents an extraordinary chance to explore characters, mythology, and our shared humanity. From the moment she was offered the role, she couldn’t shake it off. Kip’s vision is exciting, terrifying, and profoundly relatable, allowing us to confront not only the darkness in the world, but also the light we struggle to preserve. It’s a unique opportunity for an actor to embody various voices and viewpoints within a single piece, and Erivo feels privileged to do so for West End audiences in this exceptional production. She acknowledges that this show will demand everything from her – emotionally, physically, and mentally – but she’s prepared and eager to meet the challenge.
