Legendary Entertainment Names Di Mu CEO of China Division

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that I, Di Mu, have been appointed as the CEO of Legendary East – the China division responsible for promoting and marketing Legendary titles and some chosen third-party releases under Legendary Entertainment. I’ll be reporting directly to Josh Grode, the big boss at Legendary. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring more exciting gaming experiences to the Chinese market!

In a statement, Grode acknowledged Di Mu’s significant contribution to Legendary East as a crucial player in our local campaigns within China. He praised her understanding of the market, innovative ideas, and strong leadership, which he believes make her perfectly suited to guide our upcoming ventures in the region.

In 2016, Mu began working at Legendary East and held the position of Executive Vice President of Marketing. With over two decades of expertise in film marketing and media planning, she is well-known for her effectiveness in promoting Hollywood intellectual property within China. She has overseen marketing operations for twelve Legendary films in China, which cumulatively generated over $1.34 billion at the local box office. Some of her recent campaigns include “Godzilla vs. Kong”, “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu”, “Dune” and its sequel, and as of 2024, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” became the highest-grossing foreign film in China that year. In early 2025, a “Minecraft Movie” surpassed all other Hollywood films this year to become China’s top-grossing Hollywood title, still running in theaters.

It’s been an honor to help introduce some of the world’s largest movies to Chinese viewers in a way that feels genuine and relatable, as stated by Mu. Looking ahead, I am eager to keep fostering cultural exchange and strengthening Legendary’s position by leveraging local knowledge and partnerships.

Her appointment coincides with Legendary’s ongoing success, as it maintains a streak of blockbuster movies. By 2024, the studio had exceeded $20 billion in total worldwide box office revenue. Additionally, notable changes for the studio include a management buyout in October 2024 that made Legendary fully owned by its executive team and private equity firm Apollo.

Forthcoming productions from our studio feature the Ryan Reynolds-headlined comedy “Animal Pals”, Denis Villeneuve’s long-awaited “Dune Chapter Three”, a take on “Street Fighter”, another addition to the Monsterverse, and an unnamed film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu starring Tom Cruise. In terms of television, we are involved in “Monarch: The Monsters’ Legacy” (Apple TV+), “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” (Netflix), “Dune: The Prophecy” (HBO/Max), “Drops of God” (Apple TV+), “Vanda” (Hulu), and “You Would Do It Too” (streaming on Disney+ and Apple TV+).
