David Fincher has spearheaded numerous successful ventures, such as the 1995 release “Seven” and the 1999 hit “Fight Club“. In 2019, he collaborated with the director of “Deadpool“, Tim Miller, on a modern take of the 1981 animated sci-fi movie “Heavy Metal” entitled .
Although the mature animated series titled “Love, Death & Robots” has garnered positive reviews from critics, it’s been less recognized by the general public. Now that a new season, known as “Volume IV,” is out, there’s been a noticeable divide in opinions between the critics and viewers. Unfortunately, viewership numbers for this latest release didn’t exceed expectations, with “Love, Death & Robots: Volume 4” debuting at the seventh spot on the Top 10 list.
The fresh season started on May 15, a week after its predecessor which premiered on May 20, 2022. During the period from May 12 to 18, “Love, Death & Robots: Volume IV” made its debut, garnering 2.9 million views and 5.9 million hours of viewing time. Remarkably, it ranked among the top 10 shows in 24 different countries.
The new series lagged behind shows like “American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden, Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, Forever” Season 1, “The Four Seasons” Season 1, and “Bad Thoughts” Season 1.
In an interview, Tim Miller, the creator, shared that for Season 4 of Teasing, he aims to blend elements of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. He added, “We are fortunate to collaborate with some truly exceptional writers and artists.
Miller expressed to Netflix that one of the greatest pleasures he and David had in creating LDR was discovering when artists or directors made decisions that were unlike anything they would have chosen. These unique ideas, camera positions, framing, and timing, among other aspects, often seemed strange yet fascinating to them.
Love, Death & Robots Has Been a Hit With the Critics
The anthology has been praised by critics since its debut, earning an overall critic rating of 89%, but a slightly lower audience rating of 74%. Similarly, this latest season maintains the exceptional score it had in Season 3.
Despite the fact that critics awarded the latest season a perfect 100%, subscribers didn’t share the same sentiment, as it debuted with an average rating of 39%. This has since increased to 48%, which is still a negative score. The new audience feedback is in sharp contrast to the reception of Season 3, which received a perfect 100% from critics and a similarly enthusiastic 86% from the audience.
In 2022, during Season 3, the audience response was significantly varied. With just 2 days to make an impact on the charts, the season managed to garner a staggering viewership of approximately 14.2 million hours watched. This is nearly triple the number for the latest season. The following week, this figure increased even further, reaching 15.3 million hours viewed.
Love, Death & Robots is streaming on Netflix.
