Six years after I, an admirer, watched Dora, the cherished animated character from the Dora the Explorer children’s series, grace the big screen in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, the inspiring Latina icon is gearing up to embark on another groundbreaking journey. Instead of a compass, fans will find their way to their local theater effortlessly as Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is scheduled to debut on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon in the U.S. on July 2, right in the heart of the summer movie season, brimming with exciting new premieres.
As reported by Deadline, the streaming debut for the second live-action Dora film lines up with a significant event called “The Great Dora Fiesta,” marking the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Moreover, it’s anticipated that the movie, titled Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, will soon be released in various international locations. This film follows Dora, our intrepid explorer, as she embarks on a new adventure, accompanied by her friends, deep into the Amazonian jungle to find an ancient treasure known as Sol Dorado before it can land in the wrong hands.
Alberto Belli (known for “The Naughty Nine”) will direct “Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado,” a new script penned by JT Billings, who is recognized for his work on “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” The upcoming film will feature a fresh cast, with Samantha Lorraine stepping into the role of Dora Márquez from Isabela Moner. The team has also added Jacob Rodriguez, Mariana Garzón Toro, Acston Luca Porto, Daniella Pineda, and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias as the voice actor for Boots, Dora’s lively monkey companion. Previously, Danny Trejo voiced this character in action films.
‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ Was a Cinematic Treasure
Despite the blockbuster success of the first live-action film, “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” which hit theaters in 2019, raking in $120.5 million globally on a budget of $49 million, it was disappointing to learn that “Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado” won’t be gracing the big screen. The overwhelming success of the first movie indicated that there was a keen interest among audiences for more of Dora’s exciting escapades, as underscored by both ticket sales and positive reviews.
The movie titled Dora and the Lost City of Gold, generally speaking, garnered largely favorable appraisals. This is demonstrated by its 85% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a staggering 88% score from audiences. Critics lauded the authentic acting performances, with particular acclaim directed towards Moner’s portrayal. Notably, MovieWeb’s Julian Roman found her casting to be an inspired choice, praising her ability to make Dora unique while maintaining the character’s cheerful and optimistic persona. Consequently, the shift in the film series to streaming might come as a surprise to many.
