The popular, cheerful sitcom by CBS titled “Ghosts” has been officially renewed for both its fifth and sixth seasons, bringing delight to all fans of the peculiar band of spirits. The story revolves around Samantha and Jay Arondekar, a young couple who unexpectedly inherit Woodstone Manor from a distant relative of Sam’s. After a close brush with death, Sam gains the ability to perceive and interact with the manor’s spectral inhabitants – these are ghosts from different eras in history who met their ends on the property.
In the process of transforming a mansion into a bed-and-breakfast inn, Sam and Jay establish an extraordinary household with their supernatural residents. Together, they navigate obstacles, uncover the ghosts’ incomplete tasks and personal pasts. This heartwarming series has won over viewers with its humor and whimsy, leaving us eager for updates. Here’s a peek at all we currently know about Ghosts Season 5.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled at Halloween
In February, Ghosts received a two-season renewal by CBS, due to impressive viewership during its fourth season. At first, the series was considered an unexpected yet delightful success. Prior to season 2, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl expressed his feelings as, “It’s the most delightful kind of surprise… We fell in love with the material, and the pilot captured our hearts. It’s like most hits – nothing suggested it would be a blockbuster hit. We hoped for it, we always do. But it was a bit of a departure from what we usually produce.
Although no specific release date has been made public yet, it’s highly anticipated that Ghosts Season 5 will adhere to the show’s traditional schedule and premiere in Fall 2026, around late September or early October. This timing should make for a fitting start to the eerie season, making it a must-watch on Thursday evenings.
A Sea of Familiar Faces
It is anticipated that the entire primary cast will come back for another season. Among them are Rose McIver playing Samantha, Utkarsh Ambudkar as Jay, who own Woodstone Mansion in real life. The ghostly troupe will also reappear, consisting of Brandon Scott Jones (Captain Isaac), Richie Moriarty (Pete), Danielle Pinnock (Alberta), Asher Grodman (Trevor), Román Zaragoza (Sasappis), Rebecca Wisocky (Hetty), and Devan Chandler Long (Thorfinn).
If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It
Season 5 will delve deeper into the intricate dynamics among Sam, Jay, and their diverse roommates, which comprise a Revolutionary War officer, a jazz singer from the 1920s, a Viking, and a wealthy woman. The producers have hinted at incorporating new spirits in the mansion, possibly from eras closer to our own times. Meanwhile, the showrunners, Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, shared with Collider their plans for more flashbacks involving the ghost characters: “We’ve touched upon this idea somewhat with the Isaac/Hamilton episode, but I’d like to explore more of each spirit’s past in greater detail, as there are numerous chances to do so.
What To Expect from Season 5’s Story
The final episode of Season 4 of Ghosts hinted at numerous possibilities for Season 5. Prohibition-era vocalist Alberta came to suspect that scout leader Pete could be the missing piece she’s been looking for. Their connection, which had been growing gradually, took a significant leap forward when Pete decided to break up with his girlfriend Donna and share a kiss with Alberta instead. Meanwhile, Jay, who unlike Sam can’t perceive spirits, unknowingly agreed to work with publicist Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), a ghost disguised as a human, who had nefarious plans to pull Jay towards the underworld.
In simpler terms, Sam’s actions to assist the spirits have placed Jay in uncomfortable positions quite frequently. As we delve into this new season, these past tensions between them might reach a climax, requiring resolution for Jay and the ghosts.
Ghosts Marathon, Anyone?
As Seasons 5 and 6 approach, there are an impressive 44 new episodes on the horizon! Add these to the four seasons already aired, plus the five British seasons, and it appears that marathon-watching of “Ghost” is definitely in order. One Reddit user expressed their joy saying, ‘I’ve only seen a few episodes, but this excites me!’ So, why not give a chance to an otherworldly show filled with plenty of spooky fun?
