Every American Real Housewives Series, Ranked From Worst To Best

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder where the world of entertainment would be without the “Real Housewives” franchise. It’s a whirlwind of glamour, drama, and sass, with its share of fights, tumultuous breakups, class-based spats, and all sorts of entertaining chaos. This show has become an iconic staple in reality TV, so influential that it has given birth to a massive franchise.

The journey started back in 2006 with “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” which led to “The Real Housewives of New York City.” From these initial two series, a total of nine more “Real Housewives” shows emerged, and that’s not even considering the numerous spin-offs each show produced, such as “Vanderpump Rules” and “Welcome to Crappie Lake.” It’s fair to say that the “Real Housewives” universe has significantly shaped the reality TV genre throughout the 2010s and well into the 2020s.

Among these Real Housewives shows, which one offers the most enjoyment, and which is the least engaging? Which ones tend to be average in terms of entertainment value, varying based on the season you’re watching? Here’s a rundown, starting with the least favorite to the favorite American Real Housewives series.

12. The Real Housewives of Dubai

It’s not kind to bully the newcomer, especially when they’re just getting back on track after a production halt and their future is uncertain. But “The Real Housewives of Dubai” takes the last spot on this list for a valid reason: it’s incredibly boring. Interestingly, the show’s main housewives are actually its saving grace. Caroline Stanbury gained popularity due to her villainous antics during the short run of the series, while Chanel Ayan was loved for her kindness. Additionally, the luxurious backdrop of Dubai offers a wealth of exciting outings for the ladies and plenty of sparkling visual treats for the audience who enjoys peeking into other people’s lives. Inadvertently, it gives us a glimpse into the heart of the expat community in Dubai.

Although the setting is rich in beauty and promise, there seems to be a sense of repetition among the characters. Caroline requires a character to interact dynamically with, yet few others seem willing or able to do so. This lack of interaction results in two seasons that, despite their potential for greatness, fall short and are merely average at best.

  • Creator: Janero Marchand
  • Showrunner: Mary Agnes
  • Cast: Sara Al Madani, Caroline Stanbury, Caroline Brooks, Chanel Ayan, Lesa Milan, Taleen Marie Khanoyan, Nina Ali, Yasmine Habib, Taj Pillott, Saba Yussouf
  • Number of episodes: 29
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

11. The Real Housewives of DC

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but reflect on the idea of embedding a “Real Housewives” series right in the heart of America’s political epicenter, thinking it would surely add spice to the mix. Regrettably, the fusion of personal flaws and extravagant glamour within government policy didn’t seem to captivate viewers as anticipated. The show struggled with audience disapproval, ultimately marking its unfortunate demise as the first “Housewives” spin-off to be axed and the only one to run for just a single season.

The primary source of all the series’ turmoil was the social ascension attempts by Michaele and Tareq Salahi, who eventually became the scapegoats when the show didn’t get renewed following their reported crashing of a White House state dinner in 2010, as per Andy Cohen. However, aside from that brief moment of drama, there’s not much to recommend about this season; it lacks excitement, energy, and glamour. It’s unfortunate, but the idea behind the show has continued in the more successful “Real Housewives of Potomac.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Mary Schmidt Amons, Lynda Erkiletian, Stacie Turner, Catherine Ommanney, Michaele Salahi
  • Number of episodes: 11
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

10. The Real Housewives of Dallas

In simpler terms, people often claim that things are bigger in the South, but when talking about this Texas-based show, it doesn’t stand up against “RHOA” or other iconic versions of the series. However, despite its shortcomings, the show managed to last for five seasons before production was halted; a sixth season was being trial-run before it was indefinitely postponed. While “Dallas” had more charm than “Dubai” — the latter lacked enthusiasm, whereas “Dallas” had that special something — it didn’t create many unforgettable moments throughout its broadcast.

LeeAnne Locken, a standout housewife known for her memorable stint on the series, gained notoriety due to her ongoing conflict with Cary Deuber. Their mutual dislike escalated into an off-camera outburst filled with strong language, where she insinuated that Deuber’s husband may have been unfaithful in their marriage. Throughout the five seasons, there were numerous instances of lively and humorous antics, some of which are definitely not suitable for work. This adds to the show’s appeal as a binge-worthy series, although it is not considered one of the most significant installments within the franchise.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Brandi Redmond, Stephanie Hollman, Kameron Westcott, D’Andra Simmons, LeeAnne Locken, Cary Deuber, Kary Brittingham, Dee Simmons, Tiffany Moon, Tiffany Hendra, Olivia Sendra, Marie Reyes, Jennifer Davis, Heidi Dillon
    Number of episodes: 81
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

9. The Real Housewives of Miami

Miami,” the new addition to the “Housewives” series, has captivated audiences with its intriguing chaos, although it hasn’t quite outshone some of its more established counterparts. However, it has delivered its fair share of surprising moments (like those merkin photoshoots!), and the women haven’t hesitated to engage in full-blown fights or indulge in the over-the-top partying that is a hallmark of the franchise. Despite being relatively new, it offers an exciting and unpredictable viewing experience.

  • Cast: Adriana De Moura, Alexia Nepola, Marysol Patton, Lisa Hochstein, Larsa Pippen, Guerdy Abraira, Julia Lemigova, Kiki Barth, Nicole Martin, Lea Black, Joanna Krupa, Frankie Rosello, Ana Quincoces, Karent Sierra, Elle Hochstein, Elsa Patton, Marta Krupa, Stephanie Shojaee
Stephanie Shojaee, Sirel Martin, Jody Glidden, Zana White, Marina Hochstein
  • Number of episodes: 112
  • Where to watch: Bravo, Peacock, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

8. The Real Housewives of the Potomac

The “Real Housewives” series set in Washington D.C., namely “Real Housewives of the Potomac,” proved successful. This show is known for its captivating drama, as evidenced by Candiace Dillard Bassett brandishing a butter knife during disputes, Karen Huger’s wig-related incidents, and an abundance of heated arguments among the housewives that continue to unfold. The series remains popular due to its many surprising twists that keep viewers hooked.

In the east coast franchise, Huger is often recognized for her talent in crafting and maintaining dramatic scenes, but she faces tough competition from Monique Samuels, affectionately known as “receipts.” Their protracted and fiery feud reached its boiling point when they engaged in a physical altercation so intense that the show’s crew had to step in. Monique is not one to back down; she once pulled out a color-coded binder during Season 5’s reunion, leaving Gizelle Bryant speechless with her meticulously organized collection of subtle jabs and cold shoulders allegedly directed at her by Gizelle. These women keep the “Potomac” series exciting, even if it doesn’t always top the charts.

s not the best.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop, Tom Ciaccio
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Gizelle Bryant, Ashley Darby, Karen Huger, Robyn Dixon, Candiace Dillard Bassett, Wendy Osefo, Mia Thornton, Monique Samuels, Charrisse Jackson Jordan, Grace Bryant, Sheila Matthews, Jacqueline Blake, Dorothy Dillard, Keiarna Stewart, Katie Rost, Stacey Rusch, Susan Okuzu, Crystal Watts, Monica Matthews, Carly Mensah, Veronica Simmons
  • Number of episodes: 176

7. The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls’ Trip

Any dedicated fan of the “Real Housewives” series would recognize that when you mix these women, cocktails, and exotic backdrops, you’re in for some entertaining television. This spin-off brings together a few housewives from various franchise episodes, drops them into a fresh environment, and allows them to interact dynamically. To date, four seasons have been released: one featuring a selection of memorable housewives spanning the franchises; another blending divorced housewives; a third sending a group of housewives to Thailand; and the fourth season pairs women from “The Real Housewives of New York City.

It seems one would expect fireworks given the hype, but surprisingly, each season of the series has received mixed opinions from viewers. Among the “Girls’ Trip” seasons, it appears that the reunion in Season 4 of the “Real Housewives of New York” is the most well-liked. Although it may not be a show to watch from start to finish without pause, certain episodes could serve as a pick-me-up for fans on tough days.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Dorinda Medley, Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, Brandi Glanville, Eva Marcille, Phaedra Parks, Vicki Gunvalson, Cynthia Bailey, Alexia Nepola, Kenya Moore, Candiace Dillard Bassett, Kyle Richards, Gizelle Bryant, Jill Zarin, Heather Gay, Melissa Gorga, Leah McSweeney, Tamra Judge,
Whitney Rose, Lori Mazziotta, Kristen Taekman, Sonja Morgan
    Number of episodes: 28
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, YouTube

6. The Real Housewives of Atlanta

The original Atlanta-based spinoff of the “Real Housewives” series has consistently delivered a captivating dose of drama over the years, with numerous iconic housewives and eccentric actions that keep viewers hooked. Nene Leakes remains one of the most engaging elements of this part of the franchise, but Kim Zolciak and Phaedra Parks together elevate it to an even more entertaining level. Mention “pickle photo shoot” or “wig,” or the phrase “underground railroad” to fans of the show, and you’ll see pure joy in their eyes. “Tardy for the Party” is a catchy tune that every fan of the franchise can’t help but enjoy, and it’s impossible not to appreciate at least one season of this delightful, chaotic series.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: Luke Neslage
  • Cast: Kandi Burruss, Cynthia Bailey, Kenya Moore, Porsha Williams, NeNe Leakes, Shereé Whitfield, Phaedra Parks, Kim Zolciak-Biermann, Shamea Morton, Joyce Jones, Lauren Williams, Eva Marcille, Riley Burruss, Noelle Robinson, Andy Cohen
    Number of episodes: 339
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

5. The Real Housewives of NYC

If you recognize Ramona, Bethenny, Dorinda, and Luanne, then it’s clear that you enjoy the New York version of the “Real Housewives” series, as you have discerning tastes. Drama fueled by alcohol, shattered glass, lavish outbursts, discussions about restaurant quality, and charity events turning chaotic – these are the essential elements for any season of “RHONY,” with Aviva Drescher’s dramatic scene of removing her prosthetic leg and nearly tossing it at her dining companions being just one of many wild moments.

The key factor that keeps things moving smoothly is that the women on this show are genuinely likable, even when they act poorly, which makes the fifteen-season duration seem like it flies by as quickly as a table overturning at a dinner party. If you’ve never watched any of the numerous shows or spin-offs from “Orange County,” this one might be the easiest to watch in one go. However, we still have a few more entries before reaching the pinnacle of the “Real Housewives” series.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, Bethenny Frankel, Dorinda Medley, Carole Radziwill, Heather Thomson, Tinsley Mortimer, Jill Zarin, Mario Singer, Kelly Bensimon, Kristen Taekman, Leah McSweeney, Aviva Drescher, Erin Dana Lichy, Brynn Whitfield, Sai De Silva, Jenna Lyons, Allyson Shapiro, Eboni K. Williams, Cindy Barshop, Elyse Slaine, Racquel Chevremont, Sarah McSweeney, Rebecca Minkoff, Hannah Lynch, Naomi Meulemans, Nicole Nadeau, Lisa Wexler, Teddy Bensimon
  • Number of episodes: 294
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango.

4. The Real Housewives of New Jersey

If you’ve ever uttered the phrase “prostitution talk” or something similar, then you might be a fan of “RHONJ.” And there’s a good reason for that – the ladies in this “Real Housewives” series aren’t shy about getting into heated discussions and arguments. This show is so outrageous, even the husbands often become fascinating characters. (Imagine the series without Joe Giudice or Joe Gorga!)

Among the Spitfires, namely Melissa, Dolores, Margaret, and adored Teresa, holding sway, this show excels at maintaining high-stakes drama and abundant wine (and aviation). It’s no surprise that it has continued for 14 seasons, with viewers eagerly awaiting the announcement of a 15th.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Teresa Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Dolores Catania, Margaret Josephs, Jacqueline Laurita, Jennifer Aydin, Jackie Goldschneider, Caroline Manzo, Danielle Staub, Rosie Pierri, Ashlee Holmes, Margaret Kiss, Lexi Barbuto, Danielle Cabral, Jennifer Fessler, Rachel Fuda, Kim DePaola, Donna Marco, Lysa Simpson, Jillian Staub, Kim Pirrella, Teresa Aprea, Nicole Napolitano, Gabrielle Catania, Amber Marchese, Josephine Altinel, Valerie Spagnola, Marlene Vincent, Valentina Cabral, Kim Granatell, Traci Lynn Johnson, Lexi Ioannou, Ann B. Mark, Heather Robinson, Alisa Maria, Brittany Mattessich, Tiffany Chantell, Michelle Pais
  • Number of episodes: 253
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

3. The Real Housewives of Orange County

As a dedicated gamer of reality TV, I can confidently say that the original “Housewives” series continues to be one of the franchise’s crown jewels, even after more than a decade on air. The show never shies away from stirring up controversy, like the debate about Brooks’ cancer authenticity or Tamra’s sneaky ambush of Kelly in the bushes. Who could forget Tamara’s iconic “That’s my opinion!” declaration during Season 9’s reunion, defending her take on Vicki’s boyfriend being unfit? These California queens have a knack for sparking conversations that just won’t quit. After almost two decades, it still feels fresh and is a must-watch every week.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Tamra Judge, Vicki Gunvalson, Shannon Storms Beador, Heather Dubrow, Emily Simpson, Gina Kirschenheiter, Gretchen Rossi, Briana Culberson, Kelly Dodd, Alexis Bellino, Meghan King, Jeana Keough, Jennifer Pedranti, Lauri Waring Peterson, Lydia McLaughlin, Lizzie Rovsek, Katie Ginella, Sandra Baker, Katarina Dubrow, Lynne Curtin, Kara Keough, Annabelle Simpson, Tammy Knickerbocker, Sophia Barney, Ashley Zarlin, Sarah Rodriguez, Alexa Curtin, Peggy Sulahian, Noella Bergener, Sophie Waring, Jen Armstrong, Sienna Kirschenheiter, Peggy Tanous, Natalie Puche, Elizabeth Lyn Vargas, Raquel Curtin, Judy Stirling, Bobbi Meza, Taylor Armstrong, Rowan Burke, Mackenna Bellino, Nancy Bello, Danielle Gregorio, Susan Archer
    Number of episodes: 351
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

2. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

The “Real Housewives” franchise’s Beverly Hills division has consistently provided juicy gossip throughout its run. Boasting housewives who also have impressive acting backgrounds, such as movie and TV stars like Lisa Rinna, Garcelle Beauvais, and Kyle Richards from the latest season, their dramatic performances would keep an opera company thriving for years. Do you recall the infamous “dinner party from hell?” or Kim and Kyle Richards’ heated argument caught on camera? Or any situation involving Lisa Vanderpump? It’s all captivating, all sensational, and all irresistibly entertaining, even in the most appalling ways.

As a gamer, diving into the world of Beverly Hills feels like an action-packed, high-tension game. Binge-watching it all at once can sometimes become overwhelming, with moments where you’ll feel the need to pause and take a break. However, despite the occasional lulls that might make you want to change the channel (like when Diana Jenkins was around), this series nearly reaches the pinnacle due to its fourteen seasons filled with exciting moments. Yet, not every season can be a non-stop thrill ride, like chugging a Lucy Lucy Apple Juice. But if you’re marathoning it back to back, those quieter moments might become a welcome breather.

  • Creator: Scott Dunlop
  • Showrunner: n/a
  • Cast: Lisa Rinna, Garcelle Beauvais, Kyle Richards, Lisa Vanderpump, Camille Grammer, Dorit Kemsley, Adrienne Maloof, Sutton Stracke, Jennifer Tilly, Brandi Glanville, Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave, Yolanda Hadid
  • Number of episodes: 309
  • Where to watch: Peacock, Bravo, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango, Amazon Prime.

1. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City

What sets the “Real Housewives” series from Salt Lake City apart? Well, it’s overflowing with megawatt drama for starters. It manages to be self-aware without veering into parody or mocking the franchise as a whole. The characters in this show are vibrant and add a touch of sharpness that you don’t usually see in other series. For instance, Jen Shah is currently serving a six-year prison sentence for fraud charges. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the drama here. If “Reality Von Tease” is a familiar name, then you know how exceptional this version of “Housewives” is – and why, among all its siblings, this one stands out as the finest representation of the show that the franchise has produced.

  • Cast: Lisa Barlow, Whitney Rose, Meredith Marks, Heather Gay, Mary Cosby, Jen Shah, Angie Katsanevas, Jennie Nguyen, Ashley Gay, Monica Garcia, Bronwyn Newport, Bobbie Rose, Andrea Robinson, Annabelle Gay, Britani Bateman, Angie Harrington, Danna Bui-Negrete, Elektra Katsanevas Trujillo
