‘In my head, I believe…’: John Abraham shares why he’s not fully convinced about doing OTT projects

The streaming service has become a popular option for viewers and well-known personalities alike, as numerous stars have chosen it to launch their digital careers. Yet, it seems that actor John Abraham isn’t jumping on the bandwagon just yet. In a recent conversation, he expressed his thoughts on the subject, stating, “I feel I was designed for the silver screen.

John Abraham on why he is not doing OTT projects

During an interview with Hindustan Times, John Abraham shared his concerns about participating in the world of Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. He reportedly emphasized that entering the digital realm necessitates a substantial production infrastructure and a committed workforce. However, creators frequently find themselves without control over their creative property’s ownership rights.

From his point of view, the income generated is often balanced out by operational expenses, leaving the endeavor not as rewarding. He also mentioned that many individuals engaged in Over-The-Top (OTT) services would share this outlook, and because he feels it’s impractical to create web series with such limitations, he currently sees no need to pursue them.

Instead, he admitted he might create a web series if he found a story that deeply moved him and seemed truly authentic.

Instead of approaching OTT productions as a commercial endeavor, the Vedaa actor made clear that his motivation stems from a genuine interest in sharing profound stories. To date, this is the reason he hasn’t produced any OTT projects.

Regarding acting in web content, John Abraham expressed that although he doesn’t completely reject the idea, at this moment, he hasn’t planned to star in a series or create an original movie for any Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming service.

He made clear that his primary attention lies in the world of cinema, a place he feels is his true home. While he acknowledges and appreciates digital platforms, particularly for their impressive international content and acclaimed Indian productions such as Paatal Lok, he doesn’t envision himself being part of that realm just yet.

In the professional sphere, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined forces with Rohit Shetty for an upcoming venture. This unnamed production is a pulse-pounding thriller, inspired by the life experiences of Rakesh Maria, a distinguished former Mumbai Police Commissioner. The narrative promises to be profoundly engaging, shedding light on pivotal episodes from Maria’s career, including his investigations into the 1993 Bombay blasts and the 26/11 attacks, as well as his encounters with the criminal underworld.
