Chris Evans’ ‘Push’ Makes a Stunning Comeback on Streaming After 16 Years!

Chris Evans is well-loved within the superhero genre due to his performances as Captain America and, to a slightly lesser degree, Johnny Storm/Human Torch throughout his career. Yet, it’s easy for fans to overlook the fact that Evans also starred in a relatively forgotten superhero production, which has recently gained attention due to streaming thanks to the resurgence of “Push” on the charts 16 years after its initial cinema release.

Push, featuring Evans alongside Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, and Camilla Belle, has made its mark in the top 10 movies on free streamer Tubi this week, currently holding the #6 position.

As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but reminisce about Chris Evans’ captivating performances, particularly his stint in Marvel’s 2005 and 2007 adaptations of Fantastic Four and Rise of the Silver Surfer. Fast forward to 2009, and Evans graced our screens once more, this time as Nick Gant in Summit Entertainment’s Push, under the skillful direction of Emmy-nominated filmmaker Paul McGuigan. In this intriguing flick, I played the role of an untrained psychic on the run from a covert government agency, the Division, which was delving into psychic warfare and experimental drugs. While hiding in Hong Kong, I managed to rally a group of renegade psychics determined to bring down the Division. Joining forces with a young clairvoyant named Cassie (Fanning), we embarked on a quest to find a missing girl and a stolen suitcase that held the key to our shared goal.

Push Slowed, But Didn’t Stop His Momentum in the Superhero Genre

The movie “Push” failed to impress critics or viewers when it was initially released, which wasn’t helped by the fact that it debuted as the Marvel Cinematic Universe started gaining momentum. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 23% critical rating and a 43% Popcornmeter score, earning only $49 million globally against its $38 million budget. The main criticism was directed at the story, with many viewers finding it confusing despite good performances from Chris Evans and his co-stars.

The First Avenger. Evans’ portrayal of Captain America became a significant fixture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until he passed his red, white, and blue shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson in Endgame. His roles within the MCU span across the first three Captain America films and the initial four Avengers movies.

Last year saw an unexpected comeback for Evans, who once again took on the part of Johnny Storm within the MCU, receiving acclaim across the board. Known for his exceptional acting skills, it’s rumored that he’s also involved in a project for the upcoming sequel, though details about his character are being tightly guarded.

Push is now available to stream via Tubi.
