How Reneé Rapp Says Her Mom Manifested Her Becoming a “Pop Star”

It appears that Reneé Rapp‘s mother had a premonition about her daughter’s future success in the pop world, long before she was actually born.

More recently, the performer-thespian discussed on the “Good Chat with Amy Poehler” podcast that her mother, Denise Rapp, played a significant role in shaping her musical career by selecting her stage name.

The musician known as “Too Well” explained that his mother picked out his first and last name with two R’s each, stating it as a choice that could possibly be debated. He added, “‘Alliteration,’ she said, ‘might come in handy if I ever wanted to become a pop star,’ even before I was born.”

The artist “Too Well” shared that his mother had selected names with two R’s for him, though it could be argued either way. She mentioned the idea of alliteration, suggesting it might prove beneficial if he ever aspired to be a pop star, even before his birth.

Despite Rapp jokingly calling the action arrogant, she admitted that she’s in fact fascinated by how her mother performed it, saying, “I can’t help but be grateful, God.”

Although Rapp playfully labeled the action as conceited, she openly acknowledged her obsession with her mother’s execution of it, exclaiming, “I’m just so thankful, God!”

Poehler, seeming surprised by the coincidence, said, “Apparently, she picked out your stage name with the intention that you’d become a big pop star, as Reneé Rapp is quite a catchy pop star name.” Rapp agreed, adding, “It’s indeed a great one!

The singer famous for “Leave Me Alone” made her initial breakthrough in entertainment as Regina George in the Broadway musical “Mean Girls”. She would later reprise this role in the 2024 movie adaptation of the same musical. Beyond her successful music career, she also appeared on HBO’s show “The Sex Lives of College Girls”, but parted ways during the third season.

Indeed, it’s through music that Rapp finds her deepest passion. She launched her first studio album, “Snow Angel,” in 2023, and is preparing to unveil her second, titled “Bite Me,” come August.

Additionally, she released her latest track titled “Leave Me Alone” last week, and it appears that she may have taken a dig at her former workplace, “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” in some of the lyrics. In the second verse, Rapp sings, “I took my sex life with me, now the show’s not relevant / Leave me alone, girl, I want to enjoy myself,” which seems to reference the show’s cancellation following season three.
