Headlines are buzzing about Hera Pheri 3 following Paresh Rawal’s departure, as the production has been embroiled in controversies and legal disputes. TopMob initially reported that Rawal was sued for 250 crores by the film’s production house, a claim later confirmed by Akshay Kumar’s production house. More recently, rumors surfaced that Firoz Nadiadwala still retains the rights to the movie and hasn’t transferred them to Akshay. In response, director Priyadarshan has denied these speculations, asserting that he has seen the documents proving otherwise, indicating that the actor has indeed taken over the film’s rights.
It appears that Akshay Kumar acquired the rights to the Hera Pheri movie franchise from its initial producer, Firoz Nadiawala, who made the first two movies in the series. But more recent news indicates that Firoz might still own the intellectual property rights (IPR) for the franchise and its characters.
During an interview with Mid-day, Priyadarshan expressed his dismay over these accusations. He debunked claims that Firoz Nadiadwala owns the intellectual property rights (IPR) to the Hera Pheri franchise. In fact, he shared that Akshay Kumar purchased the entire rights of the Hera Pheri franchise for 10 crores from Firoz Nadiadwala, who was the producer of the first two installments. This is not just for Hera Pheri 3, but for the entire franchise. He confirmed this information as he has reviewed the necessary documents.
Additionally, the filmmaker mentioned that Akshay Kumar presented him with a copy of the contract, which outlined the intellectual property rights that the actor had acquired from Nadiadwala. Upon reviewing the documents, Priyadarshan consented to the movie’s production.
Previously, according to a report by Komal Nahata in Film Information, I haven’t yet reached a conclusive deal with Paresh Rawal concerning my company. The source shared that no decisions have been made, not even about the script or agreement. Furthermore, Firoz Nadidadwala hasn’t granted me the derivative rights of the franchise to date.
In a recent development, Paresh Rawal’s legal representatives have clarified the ongoing dispute and disclosed that he has repaid the initial investment of 11 lakhs, earning an additional 15% interest, and withdrew from the project.
