No Way Home breaks free of Apple Arcade as the twin-stick shooter comes to iOS proper

  • No Way Home has broken free of Apple Arcade and is out now on iOS proper
  • Experience a compelling, hand-drawn space shooter adventure
  • Take on hordes of enemies, explore at your own pace and complete missions

Despite boasting some truly exceptional games, Apple Arcade has a significant drawback common among all subscription gaming services: the claim of exclusivity. If there’s a game you’re eager to play but nothing else that catches your interest, you’re left with two options: either subscribe solely for that one game or miss out on it entirely.

Every now and then, I find myself immersed in a game that, despite being exclusive for some time, manages to break free and capture my attention like No Way Home, the electrifying twin-stick shooter from SMG Studio. This high-octane space adventure doesn’t skimp on hand-drawn elegance or an equally gripping narrative.

In the vast expanse of space, you assume the role as captain of a starship that mysteriously freezes solid. The ship’s artificial intelligence forcibly ejects you before an asteroid belt annihilates it, leaving you stranded on an utterly alien planet with no apparent means of return, akin to having No Way Home.

Shoot ’em up

Absolutely, unlike most twin-stick shooters that prioritize high-speed, action-packed levels with constant shooting, No Way Home plays more similarly to Elite: Dangerous than Galaga. This means you’ll not only be engaged in shooting, but also exploring the game world as you progress through missions, creating a more immersive and open-ended gaming experience.

In my opinion, there are elements in No Way Home that remind me of Sunless Sea which I find quite enjoyable. The blend of intense and rapid-fire shooting alongside a deeper narrative, exploration, and missions beyond mere killing, makes for an appealing combination that I believe many of you are eager to experience on the standard App Store.
