Warning! SPOILERS about Fire Country season 3, episode 20 ahead.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, let me share my take on the climactic events of Fire Country’s third season. The Zabel Ridge fire in episode 20 took a heavy toll on our characters, and Finn’s destructive actions at the filling station only worsened matters, straining Edgewater’s already stretched resources. It wasn’t until episode 19 that the situation seemed manageable, but with Gabriela going into hiding from Finn, Manny assisting her, and Bode being instructed to rest, we were left with fewer firefighters in episode 20. This depletion of our forces has set up a dramatic shift in the Fire Country saga reminiscent of the transformative events that rocked the show since its debut in season 1.
In the story of Fire Country’s third season, Bode took a stand against the depletion of Edgewater’s resources when his grandfather Walter called for help in persuading facility managers to evacuate the building. Although Bode’s defiance ultimately saved lives by ensuring everyone was evacuated from Buena Vista before the Zabel Ridge fire reached them, it also put them in danger since Vince and Sharon might not have entered the Buena Vista building without this urgent need. This brave action had significant repercussions for Fire Country’s third season, as it overshadowed another major plot twist by becoming the season’s most impactful tragedy.
Fire Country Season 3’s Ending Destroys Three Rock After The Fire Camp Survived Multiple Threats
The Zabel Ridge Fire Got To Three Rock & No External Help Was Available
While Manny was seeking help for Finn, Vince, and Sharon was searching for Walter in the memory care facility after he became lost and disoriented, another calamity struck Edgewater. In the wake of the Zabel Ridge fire, it wasn’t just the Buena Vista building that was engulfed, but also the Three Rock fire camp. Three Rock ultimately succumbed to the flames despite Eve, Francine, and the inmates at Three Rock making every effort to contain the fire, acting as a hand crew who initially cut lines and then attempted to save Eve’s office and the barracks by manually delivering water to these structures.
Despite ensuring everyone’s safety at Three Rock Fire Camp, unfortunately, the inmate firefighters and their supervisor had to forfeit the camp due to resources being redirected towards Buena Vista. Jake was en route to Three Rock when he was re-routed to Buena Vista by dispatch. The inevitable surrender of Three Rock came after repeated threats from a nearby fire. Since the beginning of Fire Country season 1, Three Rock has faced numerous dangers, but it’s also managed to persevere each time.
In the first season, the appearance of Sleeper posed a significant challenge to Three Rock, as his ongoing conflict with Bode led him to consider introducing drugs into the camp, intensifying the threat. This incident didn’t lead to the closure of Three Rock, however, it did result in Manny losing his responsibilities. The false accusation of sheriff murder pinned on an inmate firefighter sparked a rebellion in Edgewater against the fire camp, leading Luke Leone to contemplate shutting it down for everyone’s safety. However, Station 42 managed to unite Edgewater and ultimately saved Three Rock. Lastly, in Fire Country season 3, Oxalta contaminated Three Rock’s water supply, forcing its residents back to prison temporarily, but they eventually returned.
How Fire Country Season 4 Can Continue Focusing On The Inmate Firefighters
Following The Three Rock Crew Where They Are Moved Could Help
If Three Rock were to burn down due to a fire, it would necessitate the temporary relocation of its firefighter inmates back to prison, as only a limited number of fire camps can accommodate them and available slots don’t open frequently. Consequently, if Fire Country season 4 chooses to keep focusing on Ames, Big Mike, and their colleagues, it might need to shift the storyline to follow them inside prison, which was not the case in Fire Country season 3, when Oxalta was repairing the damage to Three Rock’s well.
Despite Bode’s graduation at the end of Fire Country season 2 significantly altering the series, it has persisted in centering around the stories of the inmate firefighters. This shift in focus was particularly evident with Manny’s continued presence at Three Rock, which led to a concentration on Birch and his pursuit of sobriety to remain part of the fire camp. Manny’s aspiration to motivate his fellow inmate firefighters became instrumental in this renewed emphasis, underscoring once more the theme of second chances, a cornerstone of Fire Country’s narrative through its exploration of inmate firefighting.
Can Fire Country Season 4 Still Bring Back Three Rock?
Rebuilding Three Rock Could Be The Season’s Big Project
In Eve’s address as she and her team evacuated Three Rock amidst the inferno, she emphasized that they were the creators of Three Rock, not its structures. Although her words held a profound meaning, they didn’t diminish the substantial issue at hand: the devastation of Three Rock. Given that Cal Fire had previously contemplated shutting down Three Rock under far less extreme circumstances in Fire Country season 2, the destruction of it by fire may well mark its final demise, since rebuilding it might require resources that Cal Fire might not be able to spare or would prefer not to allocate for a project as potentially contentious.
In the context of “Fire Country”, it’s evident that the inmate firefighting program plays a significant role, just as integral as Bode’s narrative. Consequently, season 4 might be centered around finding a solution to restore Three Rock, a place crucial to Eve, who considers her fellow inmate firefighters her team. Given the benefits Three Rock has provided to characters like Bode and Manny, they could potentially lend their support to Eve in rebuilding it. Therefore, the reconstruction of Three Rock may very well serve as the main focus for “Fire Country” season 4.
