Ray Stevenson’s tragic demise necessitated Rory McCann taking over the role of Baylan Skoll in season 2, and he recently hinted at some intriguing nighttime lightsaber sequences. It’s clear that McCann is an ideal choice to step into the shoes of a recast Baylan Skoll for Ahsoka, especially given his close friendship with Stevenson. Not only that, but McCann has a rich background in fantasy, as he comes from Game of Thrones where he mastered many swordfights.

In a conversation with ComicBook.com, McCann has now clarified the recasting situation, and subtly suggested there might be scenes involving lightsaber combat.

During a chat with ComicBook.com, McCann explained the recast situation and gave a hint about potential lightsaber duels.

It seems more appropriate to continue his character’s storyline instead of abruptly ending it. We’ve handled similar situations before, and I’m optimistic that the fans will accept this change. As I embark on this new journey, I’m focusing on maintaining the right mindset for the task ahead. It’s genuinely thrilling, especially considering my childhood memories of watching the first films with my dad in the late ’70s and ’80s. Now, I find myself training with a lightsaber at night, which is incredibly exciting.

McCann’s Game Of Thrones Background Will Massively Help With Ahsoka

The Lightsaber Combat Is Vitally Important

In season 1, the battles between Baylan Skoll and Ahsoka Tano stood out, particularly due to Baylan’s unconventional lightsaber style. His saber is heavier than most, necessitating him to modify Form V, Shien. Interestingly, Ahsoka also practices a version of this form, and she has a record of facing challenges with it. Despite being an exceptional swordsman, Ahsoka was caught off guard by Baylan, coming close to meeting her end.

In their quick re-engagement on Peridea, Ahsoka Tano demonstrated a more robust performance against Baylan Skoll, utilizing her dual lightsabers effectively and strategically to offset his physical superiority. However, despite her efforts, the battle ultimately ended with Ahsoka retreating from a duel she may not have prevailed in. Given that Baylan is now recast as McCann, it’s reasonable to assume that season 2 of Ahsoka will feature another confrontation between these two formidable opponents.

Our Take On Baylan Skoll’s Recast

McCann Is The Perfect Choice

McCann’s past experiences could lead to exhilarating clashes, as he himself mentioned to ComicBook.com: “Working on Thrones has been beneficial in that regard, with similar moves and blocking techniques. However, it lacks the same enticing sounds. Oh my, God… Lightsabers are lighter, but remember, the swords from Thrones were stunt swords and we have to imagine they’re much heavier than they appear. It’s all part of the act, truly. It’s all quite thrilling.

While it’s true that discussions about nighttime lightsaber duels may cause apprehension given past struggles in Disney+ shows, the issues observed with “Obi-Wan Kenobi” primarily stem from an improper application of Volume CGI technology. The second season of “Ahsoka,” however, showcases unconventional location filming. Rest assured, there’s no need for concern due to McCann’s comments.
