The Librarians’ New Chapter Hints at Shocking Timeline Changes Ahead!

Caution: Potential Spoilers for “The Librarians: The Next Chapter

Though diving back into the enchanting universe of the initial show is thrilling, “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” subtly hints that its sequence of events may not align with what fans have come to anticipate. As Connor Green (Bluey Robinson) and Lysa Pascal (Olivia Morris), along with their fellow cast members in “The Librarians: The Next Chapter”, are discovering, the Library’s world is frequently shrouded in mystery, often hiding more than it initially reveals. Similar to other urban fantasy TV shows, the original series made it clear that the rules of magic can vary depending on the specific magical artifact or power being employed.

In the premiere of The Next Chapter, I found myself as a reviewer, immersed in the intricate world of time travel, as portrayed by the returning character, Jacob Stone (Christian Kane). He elucidates this complex concept to Vikram (Callum McGowan) and their companions. Stone, along with caretaker Elaine Astalot (Caroline Loncq), express concerns about Vikram utilizing time travel to find the enigmatic Anya. They warn that the timeline is precarious in a universe where numerous apocalypses have been narrowly avoided, suggesting it’s already on the brink. With season 2 of The Librarians: The Next Chapter currently in production, it appears Vikram won’t cause extensive damage to the fabric of time. However, Stone’s assertions are not without their hints of a timeline teetering on the edge of chaos, offering a glimpse into potential troubles ahead.

Jacob Stone Shouldn’t Be The Librarian In The Librarians: The Next Chapter

He Refers To Himself As If He’s Taken Over For Flynn

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I found two intriguing events unfold swiftly upon Stone’s debut in “The Librarians: The Next Chapter“. Firstly, instead of calling himself “a” Librarian, he opts for the possessive form, “the” Librarian – a title only Flynn (Noah Wyle) could pull off convincingly in the original series. Ezekiel attempted it, but the reception wasn’t favorable. Secondly, Flynn is dressed almost identically to how he appeared when he took on the role of the sole Librarian during season 1. He does acknowledge Cassandra as another Librarian, yet this only adds to the mystery.

In the final episode of “The Librarians” series, it wasn’t explicitly shown what became of the other Librarians following Flynn’s tethering ceremony. Although time was reset and both Darrington Dare and the Library cautioned against having more than one Librarian, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the problem of multiple Librarians vanished altogether. Interestingly, Jacob behaves decisively and employs singular pronouns when discussing the construction of a new Back Door for Vikram’s Annex. It’s plausible that Stone is now in charge due to Flynn stepping down, but there may be another reason that doesn’t involve Flynn taking an action so inconsistent with his character.

Why The Librarians: The Next Chapter Could Take Place In An Alternate Universe

The Original Series’ First Season Opened A Huge Door

It’s possible that Stone’s wardrobe functions as a hidden reference, or ‘Easter egg’, given that he wasn’t acquainted with Cillian in the timeline where he became the sole Librarian. This is even more intriguing because it was believed that all alternate timelines were erased after the Loom of Fate was repaired. However, Jacob’s warnings about time travel hint that he may be unaware of the original Librarians’ timeline. While time travel was depicted as risky, the Librarians often employed it to overcome many of their main adversaries. The only exception being Apep, and his defeat wasn’t influenced by Nicole Noone altering history for half a millennium.

As a caretaker for the Annex, it appears that Elaine would also be informed about these victories, assuming they transpired during her timeframe. While the narratives of The Librarians and The Next Chapter share connections, as confirmed by showrunner Dean Devlin, both series may still unfold within distinct dimensions of space-time. In The Librarians series finale, it was determined that the Library persists due to faith in its existence. Consequently, it’s plausible that the Librarians from the Loom of Fate were able to maintain their timelines by harnessing the power of their belief in the Library itself.

How The Alternate Universe Theory Could Change The Librarians: The Next Chapter

The Spinoff Could Take More Liberties With Time Travel

In a timeline separate from our own, The Next Chapter might rewrite everything we know. This flexibility allows the creative team to finesse the plot until they can definitively say if Noah Wyle may reappear. However, what’s more intriguing is that time travel consequences could be drastically altered when traversing other timelines. Vikram appears determined to return, but journeying through the Loom’s forgotten timelines might lead him to unpredictable destinations instead.

In addition to Stone, the idea of other Librarians returning could add even more excitement! In the original series, each alternate reality let the actors take on completely different roles. Cillian has portrayed an evil witch, a sheriff, a stapler in a dystopian assembly, and a skilled solo Librarian who was so adept at magic that Vikram’s seemed almost modest by comparison. If The Librarians: The Next Chapter explores a significant timeline shift, any subsequent appearances could hold immense potential.
