In a departure from FromSoftware’s traditional approach, Elden Ring: Nightreign is primarily designed for an immersive three-player cooperative experience. Yet, fearless adventurers can still traverse Limveld on their own. While solo play will be considerably tougher, it’s still possible to conquer the game alone. With six initial character classes and two more to unlock, Elden Ring: Nightreign provides a diverse range of character builds to cater to various playstyles, enabling you to decide how to approach challenging boss fights and relentless enemy swarms. However, while any player can engage with the game, certain classes perform better in solo mode, reflecting the unique mechanics of Elden Ring: Nightreign’s gameplay loop.
Warning: Spoilers below for Elden Ring Nightreign
In the game Elden Ring Nightreign, the two characters you need to unlock, the Duchess and the Revenant, are excellent for support roles. The Duchess’ agility in dodging quickly may appear appealing for solo players, but her small health bar means any errors can be lethal, particularly against bosses. Moreover, the Duchess’ Ultimate Move makes the entire team invisible temporarily, an advantage that is more effective with multiple players to maximize its benefits. Similarly, while the Revenant’s ability to summon spirits might seem powerful, the spirits are not strong enough to make up for a high-damage Nightfarer. Additionally, the Revenant’s Ultimate Move grants temporary invincibility, another skill that functions better in team play.
As a Nightfarer gamer, I’ve come to realize that some of the battle-focused characters can be quite tricky when playing solo. For instance, the Ironeye, with his archery skills, maintains a safe distance, but his damage output is on the lower side. This means that when it comes to taking down bosses and earning rewards, it takes an excessively long time. Similar issues arise with the Executor, whose deflect ability works best against single enemies, resulting in a slow, methodical approach to defeating targets one at a time. Lastly, the Guardian’s strengths lie in shield counters, a technique that shines during group play but tends to slow down the pace of solo gaming sessions due to its focus on teamwork.
Progress becomes noticeable as we arrive at Wylder and Recluse territories, both capable of inflicting substantial damage swiftly, making them viable choices. The Wylder, versatile in his skills, can handle a wide variety of weapons, albeit not exceptionally proficient with any. In contrast, the Recluse possesses the unique ability to continuously replenish her FP reserves, enabling her to cast spells relentlessly. Yet, despite their viability, the Raider remains unrivaled in solo play.
The Raider Is the Best Solo Class in Elden Ring Nightreign
In terms of Elden Ring Nightreign, triumphant play relies on dealing substantial damage quickly and withstanding numerous attacks. The Raider stands out as the optimal starting class in these aspects. Given its specialization in colossal weapons, every run initiates with a two-handed hammer that swiftly shatters enemies’ defenses, enabling ripostes. Moreover, the Raider’s Character Skill delivers a potent strike that becomes even more powerful when sustained damage is received during combat.
It’s generally ideal to avoid any harm, but the majority of players don’t possess the ability to dodge every attack. Therefore, a class that transforms setbacks into an advantage is the most suitable for solo play. Notably, when utilizing his Character Skill, any attack that would eliminate the Raider only reduces him to 1 HP instead. Indeed, this skill can be used when you recognize that you can’t avoid a lethal attack, enabling you to prolong your survival, thus gaining a few precious seconds to consume some Estus and continue fighting.
The Raiders’ Supreme Skill is particularly powerful in single-player scenarios. This skill allows you to conjure a colossal gravestone that inflicts substantial damage on anything near it once summoned. The gravestone lingers in the battlefield, offering temporary protection from attacks or serving as a jumping platform for launching diving assaults against your foes. Additionally, the gravestone can help navigate through higher terrain, making movement smoother and faster. It can also destroy statues containing upgrade materials that enhance your weapons, ensuring the Raiders always maximize their potential in solo games. Moreover, its streamlined control system is perfect for beginners, requiring minimal intricate maneuvers to triumph.
Elden Ring Nightreign is currently available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.
