In “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2”, the cast of characters is outstanding, ranging from non-player characters (NPCs) who challenge you to a just duel at random, to personas whose actions and roles significantly shape the narrative’s essence.

However, it was the exceptional character development in the game that continually drew me back. These characters either become indelible in one’s heart or provoke an immediate desire to retaliate against their captivating personas as soon as they appear on screen.

Over and over again, I’d get sidetracked from the primary narrative, wandering around the bustling metropolis of Kuttnerberg, where an ordinary-looking character might unexpectedly pull me into a captivating adventure filled with engaging quests and enlightening conversations brimming with lore.

Vauquelin Brabant

Good With Words

You encounter this Frenchman for the first time during the “Taking French Leave” Main Quest, while attempting to secretly escape the imposing Lord Capon from Maleshov Castle. Not only does he aid you against King Sigismund’s troops, but his part in the narrative is also crucial.

He’s someone who seizes opportunities and is quick to boast about his thrilling escapades – bold, boastful, and always prepared with an extraordinary tale up his sleeve.

In a more casual tone: Brabant is always ready to chat; in fact, whenever he’s around, you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll hear one of his thrilling stories, such as the time he managed to slip away from John Hawkwood and his gang. Whether these stories are fact or fiction, it’s another story altogether. Regardless, Brabant is undeniably the most entertaining character to converse with in my book.

Mutt

Good Boy Mutt

After finishing the “Mutt” mission, you’ll receive this faithful dog, who will then always be by Henry’s side. He’ll follow all of Henry’s commands and jump to protect him, just as a real knight would in his suit of armor, but instead, he’s a loyal dog.

Mutt has been accompanying Henry since the incidents at Skalitz, but his role was more obscure in the initial game compared to the sequel. Interestingly, during my first playthrough of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1, I wasn’t aware that Mutt could join me on my journey.

I’m relieved that I didn’t repeat the error in the second match. Either someone throwing a fit about doing things alone or double-crossing Henry for a bag of silver, Mutt stayed by my side consistently. In a world as harsh as “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2”, his presence made everything seem slightly more secure.

Adder

Kurwa

Adder is a Polish mercenary, part of the Devils Pack, a group overseen by the Dry Devil. Your initial encounter with him occurs while you are attempting to reunite the dispersed members of this notorious crew.

Through several encounters with him, it becomes evident that this individual has an unstable mindset, primarily focused on inflicting pain and creating chaos.

Or, more casually:
After talking to him a few times, it’s clear he’s got some serious issues and seems to enjoy causing hurt and mayhem.

During the entire gameplay, Adder consistently amuses you with his side-splitting one-liners and antics. He’s a self-assured figure who skillfully times his jokes and has a knack for escalating already humorous situations.

Istvan Toth

Take Your Revenge, If You Can

In the initial Kingdom Come: Deliverance game, Istvan Toth served as the primary adversary, and he also played a significant antagonistic role in the sequel. He was a Hungarian spy, working under King Sigismund’s orders, with the objective of undermining the power of the Bohemian nobles who were resistant to Hungary’s expansion into Bohemia.

His cunning nature often worked to his advantage when faced with peril. He had no qualms about switching allegiances among groups of rogues, so long as it offered him an opportunity for honorable conflict against a true knight.

Each time Henry and Istvan clashed, I found myself delighting in their jovial exchange of strategies and jests, both striving to outsmart one another. As their ultimate confrontation arrived, it seemed as if we were witnessing a grand spectacle befitting the stories spun by minstrels.

Hynek of Kunstat

The Dry Devil

In simpler terms, a character named Hynek hailing from Kunstat, often referred to as the “Dry Devil,” was once a nobleman who resorted to a life of deceit and violence. He makes his debut in the Main Quest titled Speak Of The Devil, where you intervene to prevent his execution at the hands of the Hungarian forces.

He’s a reckless individual who might propose consuming a pet for a minor hunger pang, and is prepared to incinerate a whole village of blameless residents to secure a minimal edge over his adversaries.

Frankly, I have a soft spot for the skinny oddball due to his grandiose schemes, his mischievous nature, and the knack he has for escalating any dire circumstance further.

Markvart Van Aulitz

I Remember Everyone

In the games, Markvart Van Aulitz plays a significant role as the commander of the Prague army and becomes a driving force for Henry’s journey. He is responsible for the tragic event that starts Henry off on his quest, namely, killing Henry’s parents in the initial game. Throughout the second game, he serves as a formidable adversary.

You might perceive them as adversaries, but in truth, Markvart and Henry share similar qualities. They’re like two valiant knights adorned in gleaming armor, each striving to guide their respective kings towards triumph.

In my viewpoint, the most captivating moment for me in the game was the epic showdown between Marvart and Henry. Although Marvart displayed numerous brave actions throughout, it was during their climactic encounter that his character truly sparkled. As the story unfolded, he imparted some profound wisdom to Henry, lines that not only reshaped my perception of his character but also highlighted the exceptional writing skills at play.

Instead of a one-dimensional villain purely for dramatic effect, he portrays as a believable, complex character with a morally ambiguous personality, making him an excellent choice for the antagonist in a high-quality video game.

Hans Capon

Audentes Fortuna Iuvat

In simpler terms, Hans Capon from Perkstein holds a position of nobility, tasked with conveying a message to Otto Van Bergow. However, misfortune seems to follow him, as he invariably finds himself caught up in the heart of every crisis.

Hans has always been Henry’s most trusted companion, standing by his side no matter what circumstance they found themselves in – whether it was scrounging together pennies on the impoverished streets of Trosky or bravely defending Suchdol castle. Despite occasionally straying from his responsibilities, Hans displayed courage that rivaled a nobleman in battle.

Hearing his daring tales was consistently enjoyable, and it was comforting to know that we shared the bond of comradeship as brothers.

Jan Zizka

Brave And Bold

In the main quest titled “back in the saddle”, you encounter Jan Zizka who is associated with the Devil’s Pack, a band of mercenaries. They are fighting against the Nobles backing King Sigismund. You first meet Zizka during your visit to Nebakov Castle.

I propose engaging with the locals during this mission, as there seems to be something suspicious happening here. Regardless of his intentions, Zizka stands as the most formidable adversary for Sigismund’s troops. From beginning to end, he is portrayed as a bold individual who refuses to submit to any noble and consistently triumphs against all the odds, showing great courage and determination.

He stood out as undeniably the most stylish and charismatic among all players. His character held significant importance in the narrative, and his absence would have likely resulted in a disgraceful defeat at the hands of the Hungarian monarch.

Henry

I Am Quite Hungry

In the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry serves as the main character, tasked with safeguarding Lord Sir Hans Capon. However, guarding a noble is merely one aspect of his story. He may engage in swordplay with knights for honor’s sake or assist old Bozhena with her peculiar herbs.

Alternatively, should you wish to take a daring course, guide him towards destruction, perhaps inciting a violent rampage within Semine or delivering Miller Kryzel to the executioner for a quick sentencing. Ultimately, it’s in your hands to decide Henry’s ultimate destiny.

Without a doubt, Henry remained loyal; not for fame or riches, but for the companions he battled alongside. Whenever they required aid, he was present, even flipping the tide of battle against the Prague army when they were moments away from triumph.

In all honesty, Henry’s saga left an indelible mark on me. It wasn’t just a story I read; it felt like a life I lived, touching my heart in ways that lingered long after the final page. From rags to riches, he remained as humble and pure as the day he wore a beggar’s cloak.

Man Proposes, But God Disposes

In the game “Kingdom Come Deliverance 2“, Godwin serves as the second playable character. He’s a noble who chose to renounce his title, instead dedicating himself to spreading divine teachings. However, in truth, he is more of a bon vivant, spending his time indulging in women and alcohol rather than in the sanctity of a church.

Godwin, who once seemed like a jovial figure causing mischief in the initial game, surprisingly transformed into a valiant warrior risking his life to protect Henry from the menacing bandits of Nebakov. This shift demonstrated that even the most unpredictable spirits can ultimately embody honor admirably.

Often, I find myself yearning for the power to steer the course of events between Godwin and Henry, mainly due to Godwin’s unbothered demeanor towards others’ troubles. Yet, in a realm where knights shone brightly, it was an aging, tipsy priest, whose sole aim was to protect his companions, who left the deepest impression.
