Cinematographer Pratik Shah, known for his work on movies like Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, Vikramaditya Motwane’s Jubilee, and CTRL, is facing criticism due to accusations of inappropriate behavior. Filmmaker Abhinav Singh openly claimed that Mr. Shah was “abusive emotionally” and “manipulative,” sharing stories from multiple women as evidence. Consequently, production company Dharma Productions has issued a statement addressing this issue publicly.
Regarding the accusations against Pratik Shah, the creators of Homebound emphasized that Dharma Productions has a firm stance against any kind of unacceptable behavior or sexual harassment, with zero tolerance towards such activities.
It was highlighted that Shah worked on the project temporarily as a freelancer, and his contributions to the project have ended. While he was working, it appears that the production house’s Internal Committee, following the POSH policy, did not receive any reports of sexual harassment from the cast or crew regarding him during this time.
It appears that Shah, who was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival with the Homebound group not long ago, has deactivated his Instagram account in response to accusations of misconduct that surfaced last Thursday evening.
The allegations were brought forth by filmmaker Abhinav Singh, who is recognized for his work in directing short films like “Sita,” starring Shriya Pilgaonkar, and “Yatri Kripya Dhyan De” on Amazon Mini TV, with Shweta Basu Prasad and Shaheer Sheikh in the leading roles.
Following Singh’s revelation, it has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter India that this is not a new situation for Shah as he has previously encountered similar scrutiny.
Around four years ago, it is said that a young female camerawoman reported an instance where Shah supposedly requested she send a naked picture, to a prominent member of the Indian Women Cinematographers’ Collective (IWCC). A source who knows about IWCC verified that this incident was indeed discussed within their group.
Recently, it came to light through a reliable informant that approximately four years ago, there was significant buzz within the Indian Women Cinematographers’ Collective (IWCC). This stir was due to several members expressing curiosity about Pratik Shah, following allegations of uncomfortable interactions between him and some women.
A report emerged from a budding camerawoman who asserted that she reached out to Shah regarding job prospects. It appears their exchange occurred via private Instagram messages over multiple days. She stated that the discussion veered into inappropriate territory when he allegedly asked for a suggestive photo.
Abhinav Singh privately provided THR India with accounts from various women, implying that Shah’s behavior was inappropriate in their presence.
