In June 2025, I find myself thrilled as Team GO Rocket makes its grand return in Pokémon GO! The notorious Boss Giovanni has cooked up a fresh batch of challenges for trainers like me this month. The recent Pokémon GO Crown Clash Taken Over event brought about an overhaul in the roster of all Team Rocket members I might encounter. For the initial days of June 2025, these updated line-ups will remain in play, and it seems they’ll persist even as the ongoing game season draws to a close.
In the exciting world of Pokémon GO, your boss, Giovanni, continues to be the most formidable AI adversary you may encounter. He boasts five powerful Pokémon with exceptionally high Combat Power (CP) and impressive stats. To engage in a battle with Giovanni, you must first successfully defeat the Grunts, as well as the GO Rocket Leaders – Sierra, Arlo, and Cliff. However, if you want to triumph over Giovanni, it’s crucial to be mindful of his lineup and select the optimal team to counter it effectively.
Team Rocket Boss Giovanni Lineup & Counters (June 2025)
Fighting And Ground Types Key
In contrast to his team from last month, Giovanni only made a single adjustment for June 2025. Regardless of the new Team GO Rocket event in the game, he consistently starts with the same initial four Pokémon as before. This means that when you face him, he will always begin with his reliable partner, his trusted Normal-type Pokémon Persian. His subsequent group of Pokémon also remains unchanged. He will randomly select one out of three possibilities: Poison- and Ground-type Nidoking, Normal-type Kangaskhan or Rock- and Ground-type Rhyperior.
For June 2025, there’s a significant shift: His final Pokémon will consistently be the Legendary Dragon- and Steel-type Pokémon, Dialga. Known as one of the most powerful Pokémon for the Master League Cup, battles in PvP matches will be quite challenging against Dialga.
Wave | Pokémon and Type | Weaknesses | Counters |
---|---|---|---|
1 | (Shadow) Persian – Normal | Fighting |
|
2 | (Shadow) Nidoking – Poison/Ground | Ground, Ice, Psychic, Water |
|
2 | (Shadow) Kangaskhan – Normal | Fighting |
|
2 | (Shadow) Rhyperior – Rock/Ground | Grass, Water, Fighting, Ground, Ice, Steel |
|
3 | (Shadow) Dialga – Dragon/Steel | Fighting, Ground |

As a devoted Pokémon GO enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting tips for you to conquer Giovanni this month! Although he may have switched his final Pokémon, you can still employ strategies similar to those used in previous months. The key is to assemble a team that collectively excels against all five of his potential Pokémon.
Fighting-types are indispensable for this battle. Make sure to lead with one every time, as it will be super-effective against Giovanni’s initial Persian. There are numerous powerful Fighting-type attackers in Pokémon GO, but two of the best are Machamp and Lucario.
Keep crushing those gyms, Trainer!
Additionally, consider adding another Fighting-type Pokemon to your squad since Kangaskhan, Rhyperior, and Dialga are vulnerable to their attacks. For the final member of your team, a Ground-type Pokemon is highly beneficial. This type is extremely effective against Nidoking, one of Giovanni’s Pokemon that isn’t weak to Fighting-types, but also has an edge against Dialga. By structuring your team this way, all three Pokemons will be extremely effective against Giovanni’s final Pokemon, making it significantly easier to defeat. The optimal choice for a Ground-type would be the Legendary Pokemon from Gen 3, Groudon.
Rewards For Beating Rocket Leader Giovanni (June 2025)
An Encounter With Shadow Dialga Awaits
Defeating GO Rocket Leader Giovanni offers the unique chance to capture one of his uncommon Shadow Pokemon. This special Pokemon will always be his final one, currently identified as Dialga. As a Legendary Pokemon, it rarely makes an appearance in Raids, so this is your opportunity to catch it if you’re aiming to boost your Pokédex with a powerful attacker.
In addition to your battle with Dialga, you’ll be awarded extra prizes. Among these rewards are 5,000 Stardust, useful for boosting the Combat Power (CP) of any Pokemon you’ve already captured. Additionally, you’ll get a variety of random items that could be either 4 Revives, 4 Max Revives, 4 Hyper Potions, 4 Max Potions, or an Unova Stone. Prepare to face GO Rocket Boss Giovanni in June 2025. His team is challenging, but keep in mind that he has vulnerabilities you can exploit to defeat him in Pokémon GO.
