Michael Cera Says Jackie Chan Had No Clue Who He Was When They Met: “He Thought I Was a Competition Winner”

It’s likely Jackie Chan isn’t familiar with films like Superbad, Juno, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, or Barbie – these are some of Michael Cera‘s most memorable characters.

As a gamer, I recently stumbled upon an interesting tidbit from the world of acting. The guy who plays Barbie in a movie we all know, just shared with NME that Chan, another actor promoting his movie Karate Kid: Legends, didn’t recognize him when they first met at BBC Radio 2. This unexpected encounter happened while we were both there to promote our films, The Phoenician Scheme and his, respectively. Quite a surprise, isn’t it?

When Cera first encountered him, he seemed puzzled and asked, ‘Who is this person, what’s going on?’ she reminisced. It turned out that they took a photo together, but Cera suspected he thought she was a contest winner. He reacted cordially, saying ‘OK let’s take a quick picture. Come on.’ However, Cera felt as if she was intruding on his private moment with his team before he went on the radio.

Nevertheless, he didn’t view it as a personal matter. Cera expressed, “I wondered, ‘Why am I even here?’ Yet, everyone was incredibly kind, and I had the pleasure of meeting Jackie.

In a recent promotion, Cera was highlighting Wes Anderson’s newest film titled “The Phoenician Scheme“. This movie recently made its debut at Cannes. The story revolves around affluent businessman Zsa-zsa Korda, who designates his single daughter, a nun, as the sole inheritor of his estate. As Korda ventures into a new venture, they find themselves under attack from cunning tycoons, foreign terrorists, and relentless assassins.

In the latest Karate Kid movie titled “Karate Kid: Legends”, Chan returns to his character, Mr. Han, 15 years after his initial portrayal alongside Jaden Smith in the 2010 version of The Karate Kid. The story revolves around Li Fong, a gifted practitioner of kung fu, who moves to New York City and finds himself targeted by a local karate champion. To overcome this challenge, he seeks assistance from Mr. Han (Ben Wang) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), embarking on a mission to compete in the ultimate karate competition.
