The month of June is here, marking the arrival of Disney’s yearly PRIDE festivities at Walt Disney World. As you explore Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, you’ll spot vibrant rainbows everywhere – in photo spots, refreshed murals, and special limited-time treats.
In simpler words: It’s June, and that means Disney World is celebrating PRIDE! You’ll see lots of colorful rainbows when you visit Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom – from snap-worthy photo spots to new murals and tasty treats available just for a limited time.
Each park now showcases visual presentations that symbolize solidarity with identity groups, continuing a longstanding corporate practice of emphasizing such efforts during June, which is recognized as PRIDE Month.

In the vicinity of the Magic Kingdom, specifically near Tomorrowland Terrace, you’ll find a vibrant mural adorning what’s commonly known as the Purple Wall this year. The design features a rainbow pattern inspired by the “Progress Flag,” with a distinctive Mickey Mouse silhouette in purple set against it. At the center, the word “Love” is prominently displayed in a soft, off-white hue.
In the World Celebration district, you’ll find a mural reminiscent of the one at EPCOT, nestled close to Connections Eatery. This design subtly includes the base of Spaceship Earth, with vibrant heart-shaped pillars rising in different flag hues. The word “Love” is clearly visible right in the middle.
On Grand Avenue, adjacent to Ice Cold Hydraulics at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, visitors will discover an eye-catching mural. This vibrant display presents a collection of Mickey Mouse balloons styled with various national flag patterns, all artfully arranged as a beautiful bouquet. At the center, you’ll find the words “Love” and a silhouette of Mickey Mouse.

As a passionate moviegoer, I’d like to share that the captivating mural from “Animal Kingdom” can be found on the pathway en route to Pandora – The World of Avatar. Conveniently situated opposite Tiffins Restaurant, this stunning artwork adorns a series of hidden backstage gates. Notably, its design features the distinctive “Progress Flag” color scheme, the word “Love,” and an intriguing black Mickey silhouette that beautifully replaces the traditional “O.
Beyond just the park’s décor, Disney has introduced their 2025 PRIDE Collection of goods, which can now be found in retail stores across the entire resort. These products are an extension of a larger initiative that Disney carries out every June, aligning with its current marketing and branding tactics.
During the summer season, these installations have become common, yet they frequently spark more profound inquiries concerning visitor appeal, merchandise sales, and the organization’s standing – not just within our borders but globally as well.
Overflowing 2024 Pride Merch Found at Disney’s Cast Connection
While the decor makes headlines, the Disney World PRIDE merchandise tells a different story.

Last August, the team from That Park Place paid a visit to Cast Connection, Disney’s unique store exclusively for cast members who can buy overstock and unsold merchandise at deep discounts. To our surprise, we saw an overwhelming quantity of PRIDE-themed items in the clearance section.
Even with major markdowns—often up to 75% off—cast members weren’t exactly rushing to grab them.

It seems that the amount of unsold PRIDE merchandise raises doubts about how much these items are actually desired by visitors during their June sales at Disney stores. Despite dedicating significant display space for these products, it appears that the demand might not be as high as the quantity they produce.
If the items were still selling at their original prices two months later, they wouldn’t end up being deeply discounted.
Disney’s PRIDE Push in America With a Different Story Overseas
What makes this year’s Disney World PRIDE celebration particularly eyebrow-raising is its timing.
By May 2025, Disney officially announced its intention to establish a new theme park in Abu Dhabi, a location where the laws are notably less tolerant compared to the communities Disney champions within the U.S. In the United Arab Emirates, individuals who openly express lifestyles that reflect their identity can face serious legal penalties, such as fines, imprisonment, and even deportation.

In the United Arab Emirates’ legal system, it is against the law to have a same-sex relationship. For example, Article 177 of Dubai’s Criminal Code can result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years, while Article 80 of Abu Dhabi’s Criminal Code allows for imprisonment of up to 14 years for such partnerships.
Furthermore, the Federal Criminal Code outlaws actions classified as “self-degradation,” which may include same-sex affection, and could result in a sentence of up to a year in jail.

In Florida, there’s a whole month devoted to individual expression that the company is joyfully acknowledging. However, in Abu Dhabi, where such exhibitions would face opposition, Disney seems not to intend on defying the prevailing norms.
It’s uncertain if the company’s Abu Dhabi location will display PRIDE Month branding, murals, or merchandise similar to what is seen in the U.S., as such celebrations might clash with local regulations and societal norms, making it highly unlikely.

This double standard isn’t lost on observers.
How does a company maintain its image as an advocate for inclusivity within one market, when it is simultaneously growing its presence in a region where such values could lead to legal penalties?
Business Strategy or Virtue Signaling?
The continuous PRIDE initiatives in Disney parks might be popular on social media and among media outlets praising corporate morality. However, when unwanted merchandise winds up in clearance sales and global expansions hint at alternative objectives, the true intention appears to shift from genuine advocacy towards strategic marketing.
Some people who visit parks have expressed approval for the company’s public statements, but others point out a contradiction: highlighting one community in Florida while overlooking similar struggles abroad. The disparity between Disney’s words and its actions is becoming more pronounced—particularly as massive investments are made in areas with strict laws.

For those curious about whether this year’s PRIDE merchandise will sell quickly, history indicates it likely won’t. While Disney is decorating with colorful murals and offering photo opportunities, their employee discount section might be preparing for another surge in summer inventory.
