This modern adaptation stars TikTok sensation Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan, recognized for his role as Robby Keene in “Cobra Kai.” The movie essentially rehashed the original plotline, but with a twist: the characters’ genders were swapped. In this version, Rae’s character was tasked with transforming her unpopular male classmate, while the remainder of the storyline closely followed the original structure.
This is significant as the film included Leigh Cook portraying Rae’s mother, marking her return to the series she helped establish over two decades ago. Unfortunately, Prinze Jr., who played a pivotal role initially, was not present in this sequel. Consequently, a chance for a long-awaited reunion between the original cast members was squandered entirely. Although it doesn’t involve a direct reunion, “The Christmas Affair” seems to echo some familiar plot points reminiscent of “She’s All That”.
In both these movies, the narrative revolves around two characters who initially don’t have strong feelings for each other, but their relationship blossoms throughout the storyline into something more profound. Though this is a common trope in romantic comedies, it suggests that the filmmakers are confident in the leading actors’ performances and plan to showcase them extensively. The anticipated reunion of these stars from “She’s All That” serves as a significant attraction point for the movie.
