In the chilling first teaser for The Black Phone 2, it appears that Ethan Hawke’s character, Grabber, is returning to seek vengeance reminiscent of Freddy Krueger from beyond the grave.
In October, cinemas across the country will screen Blumhouse’s eagerly awaited horror sequel, subtly hinted at by Universal Pictures through three mysterious messages sent to fans over the weekend. Four years after the first movie (which you can now watch on Peacock), The Black Phone 2 follows Finney Blake, a 17-year-old character played by Mason Thames, who thought he had killed the child-abducting killer in a grimy basement four years prior. However, as shown in the clip below, “Dead is merely a term.
In a world where even little sisters possess psychic abilities and ancient rotary phones facilitate conversations with the deceased, it’s no surprise. As for the sister with extraordinary powers in M3GAN, Madeleine McGraw, the older sister of Violet McGraw from the movie, once again takes on her role as Gwen.
Scott Derrickson resumed directing duties for the film, collaborating with his frequent writing partner, C. Robert Cargill, on a screenplay based on Joe Hill’s short story. As producers, Derrickson, Cargill, and Blumhouse Productions head Jason Blum are involved, while Hill, Adam Hendricks, and Ryan Turek serve as executive producers.

What is The Black Phone 2 about?
At age fifteen, Gwen starts experiencing unsettling dreams that revolve around The Grabber’s basement, the mysterious phone, and three boys who appear to have suffered grim ends at a winter camp called Alpine Lake.
Eager to unravel the enigma and alleviate their shared suffering, Gwen convinces Finn to brave a winter storm and journey to the camp. It is there that she unearths a heart-wrenching connection between The Grabber and her family’s past. United in their quest, they must face an adversary who has gained power beyond the grave and becomes more crucial to them than either anticipated.
The ensemble additionally features Jeremy Davies, recognized from “Saving Private Ryan,” portraying Finn and Gwen’s father, Terrence; Demián Bichir, known for “The Hateful Eight,” assumes the role of Alpine Lake’s overseer; Arianna Rivas, star of “A Working Man,” takes on the part of the camp supervisor’s niece; and Miguel Mora, who appeared in “The Black Phone,” plays the sibling of one of The Grabber’s victims.

When does The Black Phone 2 open in theaters?
Beginning this coming Friday, October 17, exclusively in cinemas, The Black Phone 2 makes its debut, distributed by Universal Pictures. Following its time on the big screen, it will later be available for streaming on Peacock.
