  • Project Spirits is a flagship game and a new IP with open-world exploration and RPG elements.
  • Shift Up also plans a sequel to Stellar Blade and hints at Project Spirits potentially being a gacha game, potentially releasing before 2027.

On their official site, the developers of the hit game Stellar Blade, Shift Up, have announced a new upcoming title they’re working on called Project Spirits. With the success of Stellar Blade in 2024, Shift Up has become one of the more promising studios to watch out for in Asia.

Last year, Shift Up made a significant breakthrough with their initial console launch of Stellar Blade, a game previously exclusive to PlayStation. This debut title not only received outstanding reviews from critics but also found favor among gamers, selling more than a million copies within just two months after release. Since then, the developers at Shift Up have consistently provided free cosmetic elements and updates to keep the sci-fi game engaging post-launch. After much speculation, it was announced in May 2025 that Stellar Blade would be ported to PC, with a release date set for June 11. On the same day, both the PC and PS5 versions of the game’s Complete Edition will also hit the shelves. Additionally, it was recently disclosed that Shift Up had another surprise up their sleeve, which they have now unveiled to the world.

On their official site, the developers of Shift Up have revealed fresh details about the upcoming game, Project Spirits. Initially known as Project Witches, this in-progress title is presented as a “subcultural” game, catering to various platforms and challenging the boundaries of “Eastern Fantasy”. The studio also classifies it as their flagship project and a new intellectual property following Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke. A snapshot of two characters from the game is available, one brandishing a sheathed sword, with traditional Korean architecture visible in the backdrop. Furthermore, the site provides job listings for Project Spirits, hinting at narrative-driven gameplay, open-world exploration, RPG elements, and potential emphasis on martial arts. Remarkably, the job postings indicate a preference for players of specific games such as Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero, and Shift Up’s own Nikke game, indicating possible influences from these titles in their upcoming project.

Shift Up Reveals Project Spirits is in Development

The buzz surrounding the latest updates from the Stellar Blade developer is palpable, yet the scant information available has sparked numerous theories. One theory, gaining traction within the community, speculates that Project Spirits could be a gacha game, similar to Destiny Child, though the studio discontinued support for it in 2023. As we move forward and approach the year’s end, it remains to be seen whether this assumption is accurate since Project Spirits was showcased in Shift Up’s company presentation with a projected launch before 2027.

In addition to Project Spirits, Shift Up is stealthily broadening the Stellar Blade franchise by developing a sequel, slated for release by 2026. Notably, based on the studio’s previous presentation, it seems that the upcoming installment of the critically acclaimed hack-and-slash game could potentially be released before any other known title in production at the company.
