The upcoming Season 2 of the series “Peacemaker” is set to explore ties with “Superman”. Originally introduced in the DCEU, DC Studios head James Gunn (who oversees both productions) has seamlessly integrated his television superhero show into his revamped concept for the DC Universe. This fusion enables the two live-action projects to cross paths. Gunn’s take on “Superman” will debut on July 11, marking a new beginning for DC’s cinematic world, while the second season of “Peacemaker” is scheduled to premiere on Max on August 21.

In contrast to the shared director in Gunn, the second season of “Peacemaker” subtly references Superman, thereby strengthening the connection within the emerging DC Universe.

Maxwell Lord’s Justice Gang

Intriguingly, the fresh trailer for “Peacemaker” has left fans in awe as it hinted at the inclusion of three characters from “Superman” in Season 2: Maxwell Lord (portrayed by Sean Gunn), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion). These three are depicted as conducting an audition for potential recruits to the Justice League, a position that Peacemaker (John Cena) seeks but ultimately fails to secure.

In the series “Superman”, we’ll first meet all three characters. It appears that Lord is financing and supporting the superhero team, which Superman portrayed by David Coronswet will interact with (and possibly disrupt or join). The connection between the storylines of Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 isn’t clear yet, so it’s hard to determine whether this scene happens before or after the events in “Superman”, which might reveal the outcome of the Justice Gang.

ARGUS and Rick Flag Sr.

In the upcoming season 2 of “Peacemaker”, the fictitious government agency previously headed by Amanda Waller will make its return, now under the leadership of Rick Flag Senior, portrayed by Frank Grillo. In a subtle nod to Superman, the logo for Jitters Coffee appears in the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer. Keeya, who is married to ARGUS colleague Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), loses her job in Season 1 and can be seen starting a new gig at Jitters Coffee in the teaser for Season 2. This coffee chain is famously known from DC comics and will also make an appearance in the upcoming Superman series.

Mentioning Superman indicates that Peacemaker Season 2 is gradually establishing links with the expansive DC Universe.

BONUS: Krank Toys

In the trailer for Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” there’s a hidden reference to DC that isn’t directly tied to Superman. When Peacemaker attends an interview with Maxwell Lord and the Justice Gang, this meeting occurs inside a building labeled as Krank Toys, which seems to be another nod to the DC universe.

In various DC narratives, particularly those focused on Batman, we find Krank Toys. The proprietor, Cosmo Krank, was renowned for producing breathtaking yet potentially hazardous toys. Following Bruce Wayne’s closure of the company, Cosmo Krank transformed into the villain called the Toymaker. Whether the Toymaker will impact the storyline in Peacemaker Season 2 remains uncertain, but with another Batman-oriented character being introduced, the appearance of Krank Toys is one more method the new DC Universe builds its continuity.
