Diddy Trial: Forensic Video Expert and Cassie Ventura’s Best Friend Bolster and Hinder Prosecution’s Case

On Wednesday, a forensic audio and video editor who is also a long-time confidant of Cassie Ventura, the former partner of Sean “Diddy” Combs and the key figure in the federal prosecutor’s case against him, took the stand. The first individual testified that he examined cell phone videos, security footage, and explicit videos during his work on the case for the government. Meanwhile, Cassie Ventura spoke about an incident where she claimed she was held off a balcony by an angry Combs.

I’m adamantly maintaining my innocence, having pleaded not guilty in response to a five-count indictment alleging offenses such as sex trafficking and racketeering. I firmly deny any wrongdoing in this matter.

Frank Piazza is an expert witness who declared in court that he wasn’t aware of the sex trafficking and racketeering case involving Combs. He explained that he examined cell phone recordings, security footage from the well-known incident at the Intercontinental Hotel in L.A., which included Diddy attacking Ventura, as well as what he referred to as “adult videos.” The suggestion that the video had been tampered with, a point brought up by the defense before the trial, was disputed by Piazza. He insisted to the court that the footage hadn’t been altered manually; instead, he explained that he had slowed down the footage to its normal speed because an unintended technical process for converting video files had inadvertently sped it up.

Upon the government’s instruction, at an hourly rate of $295, Piazza assembled various video clips to monitor individuals’ actions within the event; no signs of manipulation were detected. These videos, exhibited for the 8th time since the trial commenced, provided dependable accounts of what transpired in the hotel hallway in December 2016. Additionally, he scrutinized ten “sexual videos” saved under the alias “Frank Black,” a nickname belonging to Combs, from the years 2012 to 2014, which were found on Ventura’s submitted laptop. During questioning, Piazza informed the court that the timestamps were accurate but only updated when there was significant motion, explaining that these cameras mark a new timestamp when motion triggers an update in their system.

As we move towards the afternoon, the jury listened to Bryana Bongolan’s testimony, a matter briefly touched upon during the trial earlier. She recounted an incident with Combs in 2016 where he allegedly put her over a high balcony, some seventeen stories up. According to Bongolan, Combs shoved her onto the balcony furniture, causing injuries. Bongolan stated that she continues to experience “night terrors and paranoia” as a result of this incident. Interestingly, Bongolan did not report many instances of violence, one of which involved Combs throwing a knife into a wall. However, Bongolan expressed fear of Combs due to his immense power.

At some point during a 2016 beach photoshoot with Ventura, Combs allegedly threatened Bongolan’s life by approaching her closely and saying something like, “I am the devil and I have the power to end your life.” This is according to Bongolan’s statement.

On Wednesday, discussions revolved around Bongola and Ventura’s frequent drug use throughout their friendship. During questioning, she was asked about using drugs with Ventura, buying them from her, and receiving them for free. They were known to consume cocaine, Percocet, and Cocoa Puffs – marijuana blunts infused with Ketamine.

The court ended its proceedings past 4 o’clock on Wednesday and is set to reconvene at 11 am on Thursday, where Defense Attorney Nicole Westmoreland will continue her intense questioning of Bongola through cross-examination.

Ultimately, the legal defense team secured a long-anticipated victory on Wednesday as Judge Arun Subramanian granted them access to meet with Combs in court until 6 p.m., allowing them time to strategize about the case. For several weeks, they had been requesting this additional time from the judge.
