Wicked: For Good

In 2024, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande), who parted ways at the conclusion of director Jon M. Chu’s acclaimed Wicked film, are brought back together. This exciting reunion is confirmed by the release of the official Wicked: For Good trailer online, following a private screening of the first movie on the West Coast, explaining its delayed debut for many viewers. Spanning close to three minutes, the trailer opens with the two cherished friends encountering each other in the dark, followed by Elphaba intoning a crucial spell while singing “No Good Deed,” a memorable number from the original Broadway production.

It appears that Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) believes Elphaba won’t stay hidden for long, since Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) is closely pursuing the Wicked Witch. However, what Morrible doesn’t realize is that, unlike many Broadway spectators, Fiyero’s loyalty is actually with the green-skinned heroine, who holds a significant place in his heart and mind. In fact, Fiyero’s true feelings for Elphaba are shown in the official Wicked: For Good trailer, which might come as a surprise to those who only watched the 2024 film but not the original musical. Fortunately, though, Fiyero’s real identity remains hidden from movie viewers because that intriguing detail wasn’t disclosed in the trailer.

The song “No Good Deed” lingers on with Erivo’s captivating vocals, and then scenes from characters like Dorothy, Toto, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz appear in fresh footage. Simultaneously, Grande and Erivo sing powerfully the famous Wicked tune “For Good.” Later, Glinda admits she’s had only one friend who truly mattered. You can watch the whole trailer below.

Before June 4, movie enthusiasts got an exclusive advance look at the new “Wicked: For Good” trailer. Although the preview included Elphaba’s sister Nessa (Marissa Bode), the full trailer didn’t reveal her significant part in the finale of “Wicked”. Despite this, there was still a wealth of details for fans to analyze. One YouTuber found something intriguing and potentially spoiler-filled in the preview. @09samplys commented:

Everyone who criticized splitting this masterpiece into two parts should now apologize to Jon M. Chu, as it turned out well.
