Taylor Sheridan & Jordan Peele In Bidding War To Relaunch An Iconic 1970s Horror Franchise

The system might undergo a complete restart, and recent news suggests that Taylor Sheridan and Jordan Peele are potential candidates for taking charge.

A recent article from Deadline discloses that the opportunity to acquire the rights for Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be up for grabs starting Monday, as anywhere from five to eight production companies or streaming platforms are expected to compete. Since 2017, Verve has been responsible for managing the franchise’s rights, and they will supervise the bidding process. As per the report, there doesn’t seem to be a clear leader in the race for the intellectual property, as multiple studios and creative minds are presenting their unique visions for the franchise to Verve.

The director Oz Perkins, known for “Longlegs,” is rumored to be a significant player in the bidding process, taking on both producing and co-writing roles with Bryan Bertino. NEON is reportedly backing him for this project. Meanwhile, Jordan Peele and his company Monkeypaw have expressed interest in acquiring the rights for a new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie, but only as producers. Similarly, J.T. Mollner and producer Roy Lee are both vying for the chance to adapt the IP into a TV series, with Glen Powell potentially involved, though not as a main actor. However, it’s worth noting that Lee also has plans for a film adaptation of the IP, which could find its home at Netflix.
