Among the most anticipated Bollywood films currently is “Ramayana,” starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. This movie boasts a talented cast and has been generating buzz even before its premiere. Recently, it was announced that Vivek Oberoi will join the cast for this war drama. Interestingly, Arun Govil, who previously played Lord Ram in another adaptation of the epic, subtly criticized Ranbir’s casting in the role.
Arun Govil gained recognition for portraying Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan series. Now, he will take on the role of King Dashrath in Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological drama. During an interview with NDTV, Arun Govil expressed that while others have attempted to replicate it, they were unsuccessful. He believes that in our lifetimes, there should be no attempt to remake Ramayan.
In response to speculation about who would play the character of Ram, the actor subtly expressed his view by saying, “Among today’s actors and stars, I can’t seem to find anyone fitting for this role. Perhaps we might discover a suitable candidate from beyond the entertainment industry.
Previously, during an interview with Hindustan Times, Sunil Lahri voiced his displeasure about Arun Govil playing Dashrath in the upcoming movie. He stated that by assuming this role, he feels it tarnishes the legendary impression he created as Lord Ram. Furthermore, if a similar part had been offered to him, he would have refused it. Regarding Arun, Sunil referred to him affectionately as an older brother and expressed that out of respect, he wouldn’t have taken any other role either.
Additionally, the cast of Ramayana includes Yash playing Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Sunny Deol portraying Lord Hanuman, Lara Dutta in the role of Kaykay, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, and Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjihva. Furthermore, this film also features Ravi Dubey, Indira Krishnan, Amitabh Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor, Kajal Aggarwal, and many others.
The epic tale of Ramayana will be split into two cinema installments, with the initial segment slated for a Diwali 2026 premiere. In the meantime, the second part is planned for release during Diwali 2027. At present, both parts are being filmed concurrently as one continuous production.
