The sports league is investing in Jomboy Media, signaling the beginning of a strategic alliance between them and Major League Baseball (MLB). The aim of this partnership is to produce new content and intellectual property. Courtney Hirsch, appointed CEO in March, as well as founders Jimmy O’Brien and Jake Storiale, are in charge at Jomboy Media.
Jomboy’s material encompasses Talkin’ Baseball, Talkin’ Yanks, and The Warehouse Games, a unique concept that brings TV-quality production to casual backyard games. MLB plans to collaborate with Jomboy to encourage MLB players and famous personalities to take part in the action.
Jomboy is well-known for creating unique “analysis” or “explanation” videos on YouTube and various other social media sites, which cover not just sports moments but also significant cultural occurrences such as his take on the infamous Will Smith-Chris Rock Oscars slap incident that made headlines globally.
O’Brien expresses his ongoing awe at the accomplishments our community makes possible. ‘When we initially discussed baseball online, it was simply a pastime,’ he remarks. However, it’s the support of our community that has transformed this pastime into something far beyond what we had envisioned. Joining forces with MLB signifies a significant milestone for Jomboy Media, and through this collaboration, we can provide enriching storytelling like never before, giving back to our loyal community.
Noah Garden, MLB’s deputy commissioner for business and media, expressed his admiration for Jimmy O’Brien’s devoted fanbase and exceptional talent in engaging with baseball enthusiasts. This partnership will provide Jomboy Media with the necessary tools and rights to MLB’s intellectual property, enabling them to keep growing. We are excited about offering more enjoyable content to baseball fans, aiming to increase the online popularity of baseball and strengthen the bond between our sport and its supporters.
MLB’s self-run studio is valuable, yet the partnership with Jomboy extends its reach beyond just an external media firm. It also grants MLB a piece of the burgeoning creator economy, a significant aspect that’s increasingly integral to the live sports landscape for all major leagues.
Hirsch expressed that the alliance with MLB marks a significant achievement for Jomboy Media,” he said. “We’ve consistently held the view that immersive storytelling and our distinctive content and community-focused approach can foster the sport – and now, we’re thrilled to work on this mission hand in hand with the league itself. This joint effort allows us to amplify our strengths and connect with more enthusiasts than ever before.
Jomboy’s backers encompass Jack Davis, a producer who is considered instrumental in finalizing this agreement, Connect Ventures, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Eli Roth, Cameron Fuller, WWE, Quinn Cook, Billy Crystal, Josh Hader, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, as well as current and former Major League Baseball stars Christian Yelich, C.C. Sabathia, Noah Syndergaard, and Trea Turner, and NBA player Karl-Anthony Towns.
