Hollywood Payroll Firm GreenSlate Shakes Up Leadership

Hollywood’s GreenSlate, a firm providing software and services for tracking payments, managing residuals, and simplifying accounting for production companies, is undergoing some leadership restructuring within its executive team.

John Finn, the founder of a Burbank-based company established in 2004 following his work as a production accountant on films such as “Lost in Translation”, “Pollock” and “Before Night Falls”, is relinquishing his CEO position at GreenSlate. He will assume the role of executive chair on the company’s board of directors and continue to be the majority shareholder of the business.

Mike Leiba, with 18 years of experience at GreenSlate under his belt and currently serving as both president and chief operating officer, is set to assume the role of CEO. Additionally, GreenSlate has welcomed Steve Mosko, a previous CEO of Village Roadshow, and David Spingarn, a former partner at United Talent Agency, onto its board of directors.

Finn emphasized the crucial role that Mike has played in GreenSlate’s continuous progress and prosperity over the past 18 years during this transition. As COO and president, he has been instrumental in collaborating closely with our customers to devise effective strategies for addressing their most challenging issues. In his new position as CEO, Mike will continue to propel our vision forward, providing the exceptional service and groundbreaking technological advancements that our clients have come to expect. With almost two decades of teamwork, I am confident that Mike is the ideal leader to boost our growth and offer even more value to our clients.

In the realm of payroll solutions for the entertainment industry, pioneers such as Cast & Crew (established in 1976) and Entertainment Partners (also established in 1976) have long held sway. However, the emergence of tech-focused companies like Wrapbook (founded in 2018) signals a shift, as film and television production expands beyond traditional studios and mini-majors. Companies like GreenSlate aim to appeal to clients by positioning themselves as a modern alternative to outdated, paper-based systems that have hindered production efficiency since the 1970s.

As a dedicated movie buff, I’m thrilled to boast about GreenSlate’s impressive clientele! They work with industry giants like Netflix, A24, HBO, Paramount, Skydance, Tyler Perry Studios, Fifth Season, Banijay Americas, The North Road Company, Imagine Entertainment, Hello Sunshine, SpringHill Entertainment, Vice Media, and All3Media Americas. It’s a real privilege to be connected to such renowned names in entertainment!

The organization, with a workforce of 225 spread across three nations, lists Francisco Partners as its primary financier, while VSS Capital Partners is providing funds to fuel its growth within the payroll sector.

With Leiba assuming the CEO position, “GreenSlate is raising the bar in both technology and service, a cornerstone of our achievements thus far and a key driver for our future growth. We strive to streamline production operations, maximize savings, ensure every penny is well-spent, and minimize costly errors. As we embark on this new journey, I am excited to collaborate more closely with our clients to unlock even greater possibilities for mutual prosperity.
