Since Luca Guadagnino agreed to remake “American Psycho” back in October, there’s been a flurry of speculation about who will play the lead role, reminiscent of the buzz surrounding casting decisions in 1999. Austin Butler was once a front-runner for the part, but it seems he never went beyond casual discussions. The name that keeps coming up is Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Yes, that Patrick Schwarzenegger, aka Saxon Ratliff.
The standout actor from season three of “The White Lotus” has not only been mentioned online for the role; he’s shown his support for it. He expressed his desire to play the character that Christian Bale made iconic in the 2000 film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ bestselling Wall Street thriller novel, stating on X in April, “I’d absolutely love to give it a try.
Reports indicate that producers of the film have shown interest in Arnold Schwarzenegger, although some connected with Lionsgate’s production have expressed concerns because he hasn’t led a significant movie yet. However, this was also the case for Christian Bale before his Batman days when his filmography was more focused on art house films like Velvet Goldmine. This could soon change as Schwarzenegger is now set to star in Love of Your Life, a romantic drama from Amazon MGM Studios. Additionally, there are whispers about him playing Cyclops in Marvel’s X-Men reboot and even teaming up with his father for a remake of Twins (though this has been suggested by Patrick himself). With Guadagnino now occupied with other projects like the sci-fi film Artificial from Amazon, there might be enough time for Schwarzenegger to demonstrate his capabilities and prepare for another Psycho-like role.
Was THR curious if ‘American Psycho’ was among Schwarzenegger’s career aspirations? Instead of directly mentioning the movie, he hinted at the director. He said, “What I truly aspire to achieve is to collaborate with someone exceptional, such as Luca.” (Luca being the director in this context)
The Clambake’s Off. A Summer Slump in the Hamptons
The positive aspect is that there will be ample space for your legs on the shuttle bus. Unfortunately, it seems that no one is planning to rent properties in the Hamptons this summer, which explains the extra legroom.
According to reports from Rambling’s East Coast sources, the popular Long Island clambake area, known for its upscale properties owned by celebrities like Steven Spielberg, Paul McCartney, and Brooke Shields, is experiencing its quietest season in years. Some rentals have dropped as much as 30 percent, with even higher declines at the premium locations near the dunes. Local real estate experts attribute the slowdown to economic concerns, but additional factors such as a decrease in European tourists visiting the U.S. (or beaches) since Donald Trump’s return to office and the aftermath of the county’s Airbnb crackdown two summers ago might also be contributing. Most rental properties are now compliant with regulations, though the lingering effects of the crackdown may still be felt.
Nevertheless, certain island real estate agents are adamant that the market will rebound, given that property owners adapt their price expectations from the pandemic period. As Rylan Jacka, managing director at The Agency in East Hampton, points out, “Many homes that remain unsold are typically priced for a market that no longer exists.” Landlords who continue to hold firm on their pricing may discover that they have an impeccably staged rental property, but unfortunately find it vacant.
Beeple’s Trump Taco Too Spicy for Insta
Last week saw an unusual clash unfolding beneath the high-profile sparring between Trump and Musk on Truth Social and X, dubbed the ‘billionaire brawl’. Simultaneously, a more peculiar, dreamlike dispute was brewing further down the feed: Beeple vs. Instagram. The feud ignited with Beeple’s latest artwork – an attention-grabbing (and admittedly discomforting) depiction of a massive, nude Trump, adorned with a laden taco in place of his private areas. Within hours, Instagram removed the image. However, it was the reasoning behind the censorship that left Beeple and his 2 million followers baffled.
According to the artist, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, they claimed that it breached Instagram’s anti-bullying and harassment guidelines. However, he found this assertion preposterous, stating that suggesting his image could harass or bully President Trump was ludicrous.
On a previous occasion, Beeple, the artist who made headlines by selling an NFT art collection for $69 million at Christie’s a few years ago, is reported to have targeted a commander in chief with bullying remarks. Recently, Instagram took down another of his works, this time showing a nude depiction of Joe Biden holding a machine gun with it subtly concealing his presidential private areas. The reason for removal was the same policy violation and, as before, there has been no response from Meta regarding the issue.
Instagram has yet to provide a response to Rambling’s inquiry about a comment, but it seems likely that this disagreement will persist even longer than the ongoing spat between Trump and Musk – although the latter could potentially spark a future creation by Beeple. Perhaps a reconciliatory hug, let’s hope it won’t involve tacos.
