As we eagerly await the arrival of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 in 2025, Paramount+ has some exciting updates ahead of its premiere! The streaming platform has already renewed Strange New Worlds for a fifth and final season, even though the fourth is still being produced. So far, only trailer footage from the third season has been released. Although fans can rejoice knowing there are three more full seasons to enjoy, it’s important to note that Season 5 will be shorter than its predecessors.
For those who have Paramount+ subscriptions, they can look forward to continuing their journey with “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” in its fifth and concluding season. However, it’s important to note that the fifth season will consist of only six episodes. Interestingly, both the first two seasons received orders for ten episodes each, and the third season is set to follow suit with a total of ten episodes as well. During an interview with Collider in summer 2024, showrunner Akiva Goldsman revealed that the writers already have plans for the entirety of these ten episodes, hinting at another ten episodes in Season 4.
The production for Season 5 of “Strange New Worlds” is scheduled to start towards the end of 2025, but no further details have been given by Paramount+. With its planned ending at 46 episodes, “Strange New Worlds” will lag behind “Star Trek: Discovery’s” total of 65 episodes, yet both live-action series within the franchise will have completed five seasons in total. In a joint announcement about this exciting news, executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman commented:

Is it possible that the story of Strange New Worlds could continue beyond this specific show? Given the success of the franchise on Paramount+, there might be unexplored gaps in the Star Trek timeline that are worthy of a spinoff, between the events of Strange New Worlds and the beginning of the original series. Currently, viewers can take comfort in knowing that a significant portion of the show remains, and with Season 5 confirmed as the final season, it’s likely that the producers will have ample time to create a fitting conclusion without having to rush for last-minute revisions like what Discovery had to do.
