Dinosaurs are expected to make a grand return to cinemas, timed perfectly for an explosive celebration during the Fourth of July celebrations, or so it’s hoped.
According to predictions, the reboot of “Jurassic World,” titled “Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth,” is expected to generate between $120 million and $125 million over a five-day period, which includes holidays. This film will debut in North America on July 2, which is a Wednesday. Universal and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, the creators of the billion-dollar franchise, are cautiously setting expectations, suggesting that the movie could potentially earn less, falling within the range of $90 million to $100 million.
2015 marked the release of Jurassic World, which earned an unprecedented $208.8 million domestically without accounting for inflation. The subsequent movies, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022), debuted with $148 million and $145 million respectively. These three films were led by the performances of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. To add a touch of nostalgia, Jurassic World Dominion also welcomed back original franchise stars Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill, who were part of Steven Spielberg’s initial Jurassic Park film, a blockbuster hit from 1993.
The movie titled “Rebirth” occurs five years following the incidents in filmmaker Colin Trevorrow’s “Dominion”. It introduces a fresh group of characters, with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain and Ed Skrein taking on the leading roles.
Gareth Edwards served as the director for the seventh “Jurassic” movie, with a script penned by David Koepp, who previously contributed to both the original “Jurassic Park” and its 1997 sequel, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” According to sources within Universal Studios, the production cost for this film was significantly lower than the last two installments, totaling approximately $180 million before accounting for marketing expenses.
In “Jurassic World Rebirth”, only a few dinosaurs survive, living in advanced ecosystems, and three of these beasts possess DNA crucial to a possibly lifesaving medication. Covert operations specialist Zora Bennett (Johansson) endeavors to retrieve the genetic matter from the dinosaurs but gets stranded with a regular family on an island concealing a secret that’s been hidden from humanity for decades.
