Katy Perry “kissed a girl” when it was cool, edgy and different.
In a more relaxed phrasing: Katy Perry’s first album in 2008 was an enormous hit, launching her as a fresh face in pop music. However, these days, it seems that even positive reviews don’t seem to be going her way. Her recent space-themed exploit has drawn criticism from various corners of the pop culture sphere.
Even fellow celebrities took pot shots at the trip.
Olivia Munn posed the question during her co-hosting of TODAY With Jenna & Friends on April 3, “Why bother?” She questioned if it was significant that they were embarking on a journey, suggesting it might be excessive. She argued that space exploration aimed to expand our knowledge and aid humanity. However, she wondered what new developments would come from their space voyage that would enhance life for us here on Earth.
On her current Lifetimes tour, Perry faced comparable criticism. She expressed feeling like a “human pinata” following the harsh online criticism, which included the release of footage from the struggling tour.
The numbers tell a larger story.
1) Sales for lifetime tickets have decreased. Similarly, her 2024 album “143” failed to meet expectations financially. Critics didn’t give it glowing reviews, with Pitchfork labeling it as a “striking failure.
What should a person do in this situation? The answer is clear: They need to take a stance on social issues, such as racial inequality and immigration policies, which Perry has done in the past, as shown by his recent involvement in the L.A. riots and efforts to enforce immigration laws.
For quite a while now, Perry has embraced the role of an ally within the LGBTQ community. Her hit song “I Kissed a Girl” served as an opening, and she dived in with both feet – or rather, both high-heeled shoes. From there, she utilized her platform to vigorously champion progressive ideals, garnering largely admiring media attention in return.
Some naysayers complained, but that connects to the hard and fast rule of woke politics.
You can never be woke enough. Ever.
She’s taken a stance supporting Climate Change, an unusual viewpoint considering her recent trip into space. Even left-leaning Buzzfeed acknowledged the contradiction.

Currently, Perry is posting rather awkward comments on her social media platforms. These posts seem to relate to the ongoing controversy in Los Angeles regarding immigration enforcement, which aligns with President Donald Trump’s pledge during his campaign.
In the City of Angels, we’ve witnessed a situation where violence has led to the implementation of curfews. Footage of widespread chaos spread rapidly across social media platforms, but it was hardly featured in mainstream media or late-night television.
Perry stepped into the discussion by employing the “Land Acknowledgement” tactic. She posted multiple messages criticizing ICE and advocating for borderless, unrestricted entry.
In this area, the inhabitants trace their lineage back to the original Mexican settlers, or they arrived seeking refuge, employment, and respect. Over time, they have embedded themselves, cultivating lives, establishing families… However, in 2025, it is these same descendants who find themselves targeted, living as if they are criminals in their ancestral homeland.
She also promoted hashtags like, “Abolish ICE and No Human Is Illegal.”
Funny enough, I once found myself at odds with nuns who objected to my acquisition of a former convent due to the secular nature of my work.
