Darren Aronofsky in Talks to Direct Dwayne Johnson in A24 Movie ‘Breakthrough’

Darren Aronofsky is considering working again with his studio from the film “The Whale,” A24, and he’s discussing the possibility of directing Dwayne Johnson in the movie “Breakthrough.” This information has been verified by The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie’s tagline goes like this: “At the dawn of the new millennium in Southern California, a disconnected youth gets drawn into the orbit of an enigmatic motivational speaker. His captivating allure hides dubious tactics for manipulation and his own hidden shadows.” In this film, Johnson will take on a secondary role.

A24 will produce and finance actor-writer Zeke Goodman.

Stacey Sher’s company, Shiny Penny Productions, is teaming up with Johnson and Dany Garcia’s production house, Seven Bucks Productions. The executives Jacob Epstein and Justin Wolf from Lighthouse Management and Media will oversee the project.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that this October will see the release of my second collaboration with A24, titled “The Smashing Machine,” directed by Benny Safdie. While I’ve been known for light-hearted family films like “Jungle Cruise” and “Red One,” my recent focus has been on working with visionary directors. In an upcoming project, I’ll be joining forces with Emily Blunt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the legendary Martin Scorsese in a Hawaii-set mob epic. Can’t wait to dive into this new adventure!

Aronofsky will soon release crime thriller Caught Stealing.
