6 Must-Watch Streaming Shows and Movies Hitting Netflix, Disney+, and More This Week!

This week brings yet another batch of captivating shows and films to enjoy as you dodge the summer’s warmth. Ranging from gripping dramas to eccentric anime to enlightening documentaries about familiar faces, there’s something for everyone on your preferred streaming services this time around.

Sally – June 17 (Disney+)

Sally Ride was the first American woman to venture into space, thereby becoming a groundbreaking figure in all aspects of the term. The upcoming documentary titled “Sally” delves deep into Ride’s personal life, featuring extensive interviews with Tam O’Shaughnessy, who had been secretly sharing her life with Ride for almost three decades.

The Waterfront – June 19 (Netflix)

Netflix’s fresh offering, “The Waterfront“, seems ripe with promise to be your upcoming streaming addiction. The narrative revolves around the Buckley family who struggle to maintain their past grandeur and resort to drug trafficking as a means. The series is brainchild of Kevin Williamson, renowned for his work on shows like “Scream” and “The Vampire Diaries“. Notably, it boasts an impressive ensemble including Holt McCallany from “Mindhunter“, Maria Bello, Melissa Benoist, among others.

We Were Liars – June 19 (Prime Video)

As a devoted reader, I’ve noticed that movie adaptations of popular books often captivate their fans. However, when it comes to a genre where streaming series truly shine, it’s the intricate narratives. The latest adaptation, “We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart, is no exception. This gripping tale follows a young girl from a wealthy family as she delves into the haunting events that occurred one fateful summer. If this series strikes a chord with Prime Video subscribers, get ready for two more compelling stories along the same vein.

Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical – June 20 (Disney+)

Besides achieving remarkable success by transforming its popular animated films into live-action adaptations, Disney has also prospered in the realm of theater, converting many of these movies into Broadway musicals. People who don’t live near Broadway will soon have an opportunity to enjoy this experience as well, when a recorded version of Frozen on Broadway becomes available for all Disney+ subscribers.

KPop Demon Hunters – June 20 (Netflix)

If you’re a fan of K-pop, anime, and tales about battling monsters (and happen to have a Netflix subscription), this week is truly your lucky time! The brand new Netflix series titled “Kpop Demon Hunters” fits the bill perfectly. In this show, a K-pop girl group takes on the role of demon hunters, and in retaliation, these demons create their own boy band to fight back.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – June 20 (Prime Video)

As a dedicated movie enthusiast who’s always kept an eye on the cinematic adaptations of video games, I must say it’s been a long time coming for these movies to truly shine after years of mediocre performances. However, the Sonic the Hedgehog series has been leading the charge, and with Jim Carrey delivering his finest performance yet, coupled with the inclusion of Keanu Reeves, there’s a strong consensus that Sonic the Hedgehog 3, now streaming this week exclusively on Prime Video, is their best effort to date.

Next week, we’ve got a significant premiere in store – the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe series, “Ironheart”, will be available on Disney+. Stay tuned for all the details about this exciting new release and other content dropping at the end of June. We’ll catch up with you again next week!
