Jurassic World: Rebirth” marks the seventh movie in the “Jurassic Park” series, due for release on July 2, 2025. To fully appreciate the dino-packed storyline, be sure to check out Looper’s recap video (available above) beforehand, as it covers how humans and dinosaurs coexist by the time “Rebirth” premieres.
1993 saw the debut of the first Jurassic Park film, considered the benchmark for blockbuster cinema. The original movie, often hailed as the best in the series, tells a cautionary tale about mankind attempting to manipulate and control nature, with disastrous consequences when dinosaurs unleashed in a supposed amusement park cause chaos. Prior to “Rebirth,” the last film released was 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, which, as our review pointed out, signified a downfall for the franchise. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of merely 29%, it is currently the most critically panned installment.
The movie titled “Jurassic World Rebirth” has an opportunity for a fresh start. This new installment features a completely different cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend taking the lead roles. Director Gareth Edwards suggests that “Rebirth” might mark the beginning of a fresh trilogy within the franchise if things work out favorably. In his words to Entertainment Weekly, “It felt like a new trilogy,” though he’s unsure about Universal’s specific plans. To him, it represents a heartfelt tribute to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films.
Will Jurassic World Rebirth continue the franchise’s billion-dollar streak?
The initial trailer for “Jurassic World Reborn” hints at an exhilarating new chapter filled with dinosaur thrills. In the movie, Zora Bennett (portrayed by Scarlett Johansson) finds herself enlisted by a pharmaceutical corporation to procure dinosaur DNA from three potentially hazardous species for mankind’s advantage. Alongside undercover operative Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) and paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), she ventures to an abandoned research site. Upon their arrival, they unveil a chilling truth: “Jurassic World Reborn” will introduce genetically-altered dinosaurs, such as the Distortus rex, which bears a striking resemblance to the Xenomorph. However, some familiar faces are also expected, with glimpses of the Tyrannosaurus rex and Spinosaurus already revealed.
Even before the official critic reviews are released for “Jurassic World Rebirth,” it’s clear that audiences are eager for more dinosaur-filled action. With the previous three “Jurassic World” films raking in over $1 billion each at the global box office, it’s predicted that “Rebirth” will be no exception, potentially earning between $115 and $135 million in its first five days. The film’s release on a Wednesday allows for maximum viewing during the 4th of July weekend.
While it’s true that July 2025 is packed with highly anticipated blockbusters like “Superman” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, remember not to underestimate the allure of dinosaurs! Positive critic reviews and audience buzz can certainly boost their success, but we’ll have to wait and see if this franchise will continue dominating the cinematic landscape. Don’t forget that “Jurassic World Rebirth” hits theaters on July 2, 2025 – so brush up on your dinosaur knowledge with the detailed recap video provided!
