Currently, Walt Disney World is undergoing several transformations. Large sections of numerous parks are either temporarily or permanently shutting down to accommodate new WDW attractions, and some beloved rides will no longer operate. Yet, contrary to my usual preferences, I’m eagerly anticipating the reopening of Epcot’s Test Track, which has been closed for 13 months. Strangely enough, I’ve developed a newfound interest in this ride.
This morning, it was revealed that Disney World is set to unveil the revamped Test Track on July 22nd. When this happens, the iconic attraction, which has been in operation for over 25 years, will unveil its third distinct makeover. In a couple of recently released videos, we’ve had our first real glimpse at what the new ride will look like, and I must admit, it looks promising so far.
This appearance is truly striking. The depiction of contemporary automotive safety tech, illuminated as shown here, seems especially appealing. In the visual, a typical urban streetscape is transformed into countless points of light; overall, it’s quite captivating.
Many Disney World enthusiasts were genuinely thrilled when they learned that Test Track was shutting down for a makeover. This is because many people weren’t particularly fond of the updated version of the ride. Interestingly, I didn’t have too strong an opinion about Test Track 2.0, as I wasn’t overly enamored with the original Test Track when it first debuted.
The initial Test Track from 1999 was essentially a virtual car testing facility. In this setup, visitors assumed the function of crash test dummies, navigating a track engineered to assess an automobile’s performance. This encompassed subjecting the test vehicle to sharp turns, abrupt halts, and a high-speed excitement zone.
In 2012, an updated version of Test Track premiered, with a stronger emphasis on automobile design. Visitors were allowed to customize their own vehicle while waiting in line, and later, this creation was evaluated under different performance tests on the track. The main attraction primarily occurred in the dark, offering a simulated experience reminiscent of Tron, though without the Daft Punk soundtrack.
Initially, I wasn’t particularly excited about the first two iterations of Test Track, but my interest has been piqued with the latest version due to its promising features. A recent Instagram video hints at the ride emphasizing the thrill of driving and even simulating outdoor settings indoors.

You know I’ve always adored Epcot at Walt Disney World, and with the refurbishments, it seems like it’s only going to get better. Crossing my fingers that the revamped ride lives up to its promising looks!
