EXCLUSIVE: Akshay Kumar reacts to similarities between Khiladi franchise and Mission Impossible, ‘I am inspired by Tom & Jerry’

Akshay Kumar is one of the rare Indian actors who performs his own action scenes. As a skilled action star, he excels at doing stunts; he began his career with action films and has performed some dangerously thrilling stunt sequences on his own. In fact, there’s a movie called “Kambakkht Ishq” that honors stuntmen who work behind the scenes and play a crucial role in the success of action movies featuring actors like Akshay Kumar.

In an interview with TopMob, the star of Housefull 5 commented on comparisons between his viral “airplane” stunt and a scene from Mission: Impossible. He revealed that he primarily looked to the classic cartoon duo, Tom & Jerry, for ideas when creating action sequences. The actor, who is 56 years old, explained with a smile, “I’ll let you in on a little secret – I draw my inspiration from an unexpected source: Tom & Jerry!

Akshay, the original action star, expressed his appreciation for the cartoon Tom & Jerry while also pointing out its violent nature. He stated, “Tom & Jerry is incredibly violent. It may seem innocent because it’s a cartoon for kids, but when you really watch it, there’s a lot of action and violence.

To expand upon this, actor Akshay Kumar shared that he drew inspiration for some action sequences in his movies from the iconic duo Tom & Jerry. He recalled an instance where Tom was rescued from a helicopter and picked up Jerry, which he replicated in Sabse Bada Khiladi. Similarly, he referenced a scene in Khiladi 420 where Tom was hanging onto a plane, and another scene from Khatron Ke Khiladi when Tom suspended a hammock under a plane and enjoyed a drink with Jerry.

Akshay jokes, “It’s quite intense. Just want to clarify, that movie you’re showing your kids is indeed a violent one…(chuckles).

For those unfamiliar, a video of Akshay Kumar performing a daring 20-year-old action scene where he hung onto an airplane and confidently stood on top, went viral during the premiere of MI 8. Notably, Akshay accomplished this stunt before Hollywood star, Tom Cruise, had done it.
