In the year 2023, Donald Glover extended an invitation to GQ to visit his estate in Ojai, California. This property is home to a vast farm and will soon serve as the main base for Gilga, which was characterized by the magazine as his innovative “combination of production company, creative hub, and cultural archive.
Gilga is similar to Erewhon in terms of its cultural influence, as Glover shared with Mark Anthony Green during his interview for the cover story of GQ. He aims to collaborate with top talents across all fields and strive for a lasting impact in his work.
I’m thrilled to share that my designs are now part of a fresh collaboration with Moncler! According to the luxury fashion brand, we’ve joined forces to introduce the Moncler x Gilga Farm collection, masterminded by me. This line is all about redefining an upscale outdoor wear aesthetic, blending the rich heritage of mountains with the vibrant ambiance of California’s orange groves at Gilga Farm.
Functionality is essential, as it bridges the gap between Gilga and Moncler worlds; we both design with practicality in mind,” stated Glover in a statement, expanding his creative portfolio by becoming a fashion designer. “The sleeping bag, one of Moncler’s initial products, served as inspiration for our sleeping bag jacket, but also sparked a collection of summer outfits centered around genuine worth.
According to Glover, the sleeping bag jacket is one of the styles available in the collection along with other options such as down jackets resembling clouds, quilted vests, a thick suede jacket in burnt orange featuring a cartoon-style graphic, lightweight windbreakers made of nylon ripstop, gardening hats and robust sandals. This collection is intended for summer use, with Glover utilizing lighter materials like cotton, technical linen canvas, and wool-cashmere blends in bright shades such as sun-soaked pinks, creams, oranges, and blues. The color orange, a defining feature of Gilga’s style, is used prominently within the collection as a logo, while Moncler’s signature mascot, the Monduck, is reimagined as a farmer in this specific lineup.
